Stay calm this is only an interview, which can make or break my career. I glare at my subconscious. Stay out of this. I close my eyes taking deep calming breathes to slow down my heart rate. Yet when I open my eyes I can still see the terrified look stuck on my face. Who knows maybe he is blind? Of course I know the man is perfectly able to see, but my subconscious does make me feel little better.
I finally manage to pull myself away from the mirror and start to head out. I glance one last time at my outfit. My long black hair subdued into a pony tail, my black and white dress is pressed, clean, and to finish off the look is my lucky charcoal jacket. Before I can go back into my room to change once again, I force myself to get out the door.
My mother stops me before I can leave showing me with kisses. “Oh good luck, Anastasia of course you don’t need it since you will do wonderful…”
I stop her before she goes into this whole rant/ lecture that she always does whenever I have something major happening. Normally I would appreciate these rants to calm me down, but today my nerves are too jumbled for me to wait for the whole speech.
I give her a genuine smile, “Thanks Mom, but I really need to go before I am late.”
She beams at me with her warm smile, the kind that has always put me at ease instantly. I hug her wanting the comfort that only she can give me. I feel my nerves and unease chip away. I stand back looking into her blue eyes that are so similar to mine, both reflecting love. “Bye mom, I love you.” I say, before I stay longer in her warm, protective embrace.
Locking the door firmly behind me, I quickly get in the car. The day is breezy and I have to hold my dress to keep from showing anything. I pat my old car, Charlotte. Hopefully she can get me there and back. Lately she has been breaking down. When I get into the car I glance anxiously at the clock. I still have thirty minutes left, gives me plenty of time to get there and even with the Florida traffic.
Luck so far seems to be on my side today. There is hardly any traffic on the highway and Charlotte’s engine is purring like a kitten. Maybe I was worried for no good reason. Hope blooms in my stomach replacing those ever insistent butterflies. I turn on into the parking lot labeled, visitor parking. I quickly park Charlotte and head for the building. The building is like any other business establishment, with shiny windows and a straight design for the building. It didn’t at all look like the building to hold the most famous company determined to save the Earth.
Terra Evergreen Company’s front is making solar panels for anyone who can afford them, but they aspire to have every house hold and car powered by the sun. It is this reason why I first applied for the internship. I never expected in a million years to be chosen for an interview. I shake myself out of the memories determined not to psyche my self out.
Tentatively I make my way towards the building still unnerved to be here right now. Just be calm and everything will be okay. For the first time since I got the call back, from not only the Gary Prescott himself, my subconscious has been unbelievably silent. It seems that it has finally left me be, to succeed or fail as it has been telling me.
As I reach for the door all my negative thoughts come flooding in. Well guess I spoke too soon, subconscious was just biding its time. I almost turn tail and run then and there, but I want this so badly. I at least have to give this a try. Grudgingly my subconscious holds a white flag for truce.
With that settled, I open the door and immediately I am transfixed by the décor. The lobby is full of earthly colors and the ceiling is wooden and highly arched to give a spacious feel. My first instinct is steal everything and bring it to my house, but then that would guarantee me not getting the internship. With difficulty I manage to tear my gaze away from the décor to focus on the pretty brunette at the front desk.
