"Megan! Get your ass downstairs now!" My mom screams up the stairs.
"Coming!" I snatch my backpack off my bed and tumble down the steps.
Tripping along the way, I race into the kitchen to where my mom is waiting with her arms folded and an arched brow.
"Mornin mommy.." I say rubbing my neck.
"Megan Joy Colgen, I thought I told you to set an alarm." She says tossing me an apple.
"I know but I was just so tired from packing, I totally spaced out." Trying my best to be innocent, I smile and pray for her to lighten up.
Instead she rolls her eyes. "I'm sure gonna miss you alright."
I laugh. My mom is no joke my best friend. I grab my suitcase and head out the door with her on my tail. Together we load the trunk and begin our way to the airport.
"So, how have things been going with Daniel?" She says breaking the silence.
"Fine." I respond emotionless.
Truth is I wouldn't exactly call Daniel and I the best couple. To be honest we barely see each other, and besides we are polar opposites. I'm more of normal, semi smart, sporty 17 year old meanwhile he is more of a street smart, gambler, who's lead guitarist in his "band".
Don't ask me why I decided to date him, I think it was just me being a desperate freshman who wanted some man candy. However I mean he's not a total bust, he has his good and bad sides.
"Sweetie why can't you just find a nice guy who will treat you right? And can make me some adorable grand babies.."
"Mom!"
"Sorry sorry.. anyways, excited to see your father?" She says making a turn.
"Yeah, it will be my first time seeing his new place since he moved from Boston."
Let me just give you a brief summary, I live in Florida with my mom because my parents split up when I was 11, I'm an only child, and my dad has moved twice since the divorce. He spends time with me every few months out of the year and a few years ago he moved to Minnesota and coaches one of the hockey teams there. From what I heard they are a really good team. Anyways this is my first time getting to see my dad where he lives instead of him visiting us.
"Well I hope you have fun. You deserve a break from all your school pressure. But speaking of... have you decided where you wanted to go?" She says driving into the airport parking lot.
"Mom.. we've talked about this. I don't know yet." I groan. I wish she would just let me live in the moment and be a kid for just a little longer.
"Ok Meggie."
Eventually we reach the airport and park. I grab my luggage. Quickly I check the time. 10:30am
Crap! My plane leaves at 11!
"Mom! We gotta hurry!" I yell clutching onto my suitcase handle. My feet soar across the cement. The warm air sticks to my face as we fly through the front door.
"Baggage check in!"
.........
"Security!"
.........
"Done!"I take a moment to breath as my mom and I stand by the flight line.
"Well sweetie, this is it. Have fun! And don't forget to call me when you land." She says pulling me into a tight hug.
"Haha will do. Love you mom." I say walking towards the plane entrance.
"Bye! Love you too!" And with one more wave she's gone. I step onto the plane and find my seat.
Hmm.. seat 23B..
Scanning around I eventually find the aisle. Oh god. No no no no no.. this can't be happening! No!
