Vicky's POV

It's calming.  Everything I need is right here. This is perfect. If only I could stay here forever, with the warm sun on my skin, the breeze blowing gently against my face, with him by my side. His presence fills me with this warm feeling which I'm not accustomed to, his smile is as gentle as the morning sun,and his eyes have this way of pulling me closer to him, making sure I never leave his side, and neither do I want to leave. Here I can forget the stress of work, my life, and everything......... If only this could last forever...............

"Vicky...."

"....."

:Vicky!!"

"mmm....."

"VICKY!!!!!!!"

"WHAT!?!"

"At least have the decency to tell me to shut up instead of dozing off!! Do you not care abou...... Are you smiling?"

I feel my cheeks, and realized Lexi, my best friend was right. I AM smiling, but why?

"No."

"You had the same dream about lover boy didn'tcha?

Ugh. She always does this, I mean, it's just a dream! Why does she have to make such a big deal out of it!!!  I respond by clicking my tongue at her.

Lexi does a weird victory pose and smirks at me, saying, "I KNEW IT!!! C'mon tell me mooorrreeeeee"

"Let's get back." I start walking away while Lexi pouts and follows behind.

Lexi and I work in a Research Institute, and we are currently working on a very interesting theory on black holes. So far, our results have been negative, but hey that's to be expected in the first few months of any project, and we've been here for only 6 months.

We're currently heading back to our research lab, located many miles away from the closest civilization, on a quarantined island.

*beep* *beep*

My pager vibrates, and it's Josh, an inexperienced young graduate, currently working under me, and a ditz. He's created quite a few problems  for me these past few months, as he sometimes makes small mistakes. Ok large ones. Hence my leader decided that he be in charge of the control room. It's the easiest job, and he couldn't possibly screw it up.  Lexi sees my pager and tells me to meet up with her later, and I nod in acquiescence. We split up, and I head over to Josh's.

Josh asks me a few question about the energy regulator, a instrument which basically tells you how much energy/power is supplied to the machine we're working on. After clearing his doubts I head back to where Lexi is.

Lexi:"Soooooo tell me about the dream. Was it any different from the others?"

"No."

"Do you remember his face at least?"

"No." I somehow always forget the face of the man I sit beside in my dream. All I remember is just the feeling of happiness and of being content, somewhere I belong.

The red light above us turns on, telling us that the test have begun.

"This conversation is not over, young lady." I swear Lexi sometimes sounds like my mom. And young lady? We're 28, no one is young anymore.

Lexi and I stand behind a glass shield, separating us from the machine. This machine allows us to create particles of immense density of a very small quantity, i.e allowing us to create a harmless, tiny blackhole, calibrated in nano meters. As the experimentation starts, we hear the slight humming of the instrument and small sparks around the machine, and we immediately plunge into our work mode.

:a few hours later:

The tests for the day are over, and everyone except us leave the room. Just before I leave, Lexi starts pestering me again, and we stay behind in the glass room. Knowing Lexi, we probably won't leave for a while, so I call Josh through the walkie talkie  to inform him to turn off the Energy regulator.

"Josh"

"yeah?"

"Enough for today. Turn it off."

"Roger that mam! Turning it on."

Then Lexi plunges into her mother mode, bombarding me with questions having higher densities than a friggin black hole.

Wait.

WAIT.

DID JOSH JUST SAY 'TURNING IT ON'?????

I try calling Josh, but somehow the signal is getting disturbed. I start panicking, and think of what to do, but first things first, we need to get out of here. I mean, maybe I just heard it wrong, but what if he actually screwed up again? Sh*t. What did he turn on? I NEED TO KNOW. I'm kicking his a** once I'm out of here.

I grab Lexi and turn away, but she doesn't move.  I look at her, and the color from her face is drained, replaced by pure trepidation and horror, with her once blue sparkly eye staring blankly at the machine. I walk past her with a foreboding that something's gone horribly wrong, and hey! I was right. THE MACHINE'S HAS GONE HAYWIRE. SH*T. WE NEED TO GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE.

To amplify our already anxious state, red lights start flashing and the alarm starts blaring, leaving us in a complete state of impotence. Before I could take a step towards the exit, i feel my energy being drained from me and my legs become jelly. I glance at Lexi and apparently she felt the same. I fall down, exhausted and helpless and look at the Lexi, who in turn looks at me. We silently exchange our last words, and stare at the machine. Apparently, the huge influx of energy gave the machine enough power to create a black hole. Surprising, how we're not being sucked into it, but instead only our energy is. Slowly, I feel my life force being sucked out, and I start losing consciousness. I'm dying, but hey at least I'm with my best friend, the only person who's ever understood me and put up with my bullsh*t. My world gradually darkens and my eyes weigh me down, and everything goes black.
