Mellisa's Pov

"Austin get your butt in here young man", I yelled to my fourteen year old son. He came through the kitchen door with his hoodie over his face.

"Son please take your hoodie off your face and tell me what happened that causes your teacher to call", I said with a soft yet firm voice.

He lifted his hoodie reveling a purple and black bruise on his baby blue eyes, and he whimpered when I scowled. "Mom please don't look at me that way", he whispered.

I shook my head trying to be strong for once," What happened Austin tell me. Now!". That's when he broke.

" I'm sorry mommy they were talking about you and dad and I couldn't take it. They said horrible things that weren't true. So I told them that and they laughed and called me a mommy's boy for taking for you. I'm so sorry mom.", He sobbed with his head ashamed.

I cooed,"C'mere Baby boy it's okay. I'm glad you stuck up for me, but you should have ignored them knowing it's a lie okay?", hugging him until all I heard was his sniffles.

He looked up at me and asked," Mom, do you think dad's disappointed in me?". I shook my head letting my curls sprawl in his face making him giggle.

"No. He would be proud and horned to call you his son. Now you know this calls for an punishment, young man", I said with a soft smile to lighten the mood.

He laughed and said," Yes mom I know. I'll go get the garden hose and start with the yard", running to go fetch the materials he will need to use for the garden we started.

I laughed half- hearted," Yeah".

I looked up at the ceiling and closed my eyes," Marcus, if your listening right now our not is growing to be just like you in so many ways. He has your humor, your wits, and any good qualities that I would die for. We love you so much with all of our hearts. You served the country and we honor you for that. I really wished you were a part of the few that came home to us. Amen".

I trie so hard to be strong but a tear was she's anyway.
