Chapter Eight

Escape

Krishna didn’t waist any time in worrying about her missing stalker guy. Although there was a small part of her that still felt empty, she refused to think about him in any way. He was gone and that was exactly what she had asked for.

But then why was she so pained by his absence?

A knock at the motel room door had her whirling with emotion as she wondered if it was him. Maybe he had gone for breakfast, or coffee, and got locked out. Wishful thinking, considering they didn’t know one another more than five minutes, he wouldn’t know the first thing about her food preferences. Besides, her senses were telling her otherwise, so she knew it wasn’t him.

But who it actually was had her wondering how the hell her trail was so easy to follow when she wasn’t following any particular path. She would need to mix up her game a bit if she was to keep dodging the police. Assuming they were still looking for her, that was.

“I really don’t have time for this right now, Lucas, so I really don’t even want to know how you found me,” she said as she opened the door and then walked away from it, leaving it open and Lucas standing there waiting. There was only one thing on her mind apart from that guy, and it did not involve Lucas in the slightest. She was aching to hit the road.

“Well, good morning to you too,” he spoke with a cheerful voice. His happiness was flooding every word, suggesting a secret meaning that she did not wish to reveal.

Since her departure, he had updated himself with the mating rituals, and thanks to his loyal friend, and sister, Samantha, was completely prepared to take what was rightfully his if she objected. It didn’t even matter to him that she had secrets. Though he did really want to know what happened back at his flat to cause her escape, he wasn’t going to press. Not at first.

Krishna rolled her eyes as she pushed her flannel pants into her pack. She had managed to just pull on day clothes when Lucas knocked. If he had happened to show a minute or two earlier, he would have been considered a nuisance. As it was, she wasn’t happy to see him, and was all too eager to get away from him. Against her better judgment, her mind was on another man in her life.

Shaking away the thoughts from her evening, she grumbled, “There is nothing good about it. Now if you’ll excuse me, I am on a time limit.” She tried to push past him, but he stood his ground.

Lucas could not believe what he was feeling. His wolf senses were in full guard mode as they sensed a predator within the body of the girl he loved. Krishna … his beloved Krishna, was not the same. Although his wolf was bursting at the seams trying to break free, Lucas managed to maintain composure and appear unmoved by this revelation. Even still, he sent warning thoughts to both Vincent and Anthony; the two he sent to watch her.

‘Figure out which one of you failed my orders and step up to the plate. I will deal with you when I am done here.’

They didn’t need to respond for him to know they heard him loud and clear. Apart from their cowering silence, he heard their physical beings shift uncomfortably.

“I am beginning to get the feeling you really aren’t happy to see me,” he mock joked. He didn’t want to show the anger he was holding inside. Not yet.

The worrisome thought that had previously crossed Krishna’s mind returned. She definitely had a love sick pup on her hands. How her once beloved Lucas was suddenly now a wolf, though, had her mental wheels turning.  “Trust me,” she said with a fake smile, “I am happy to see you. It was great running into you the other day. I just fear now is not the time for a reunion.” She glanced at her watch to reiterate her lack of time, hoping he would see the gesture as the hint that it was.
