It’s always been like this. All my life, I have been followed by a certain question which comes out from almost everybody’s mouths. Sometimes I don’t answer; sometimes I answer the said question. It’s weird, to be honest. To be asked by the question, that I don’t ever want to be opened up with.
My daddy is a great man, who works as a professor in a prestigious university here in our country. Almost everybody knows him. He’s quite a figure for contributing researches about Biotechnology and Genetics. I would say that I look up to him and I want to be like him one day. Whenever my classmates and I hang out in school and talk about our parents, I always have a smile on my face whenever I talk about my daddy. He’s like a superhero in the comics I read. Even my teachers always ask for my daddy to attend meetings because they want to discuss possible projects with him. Of course, being the best daddy in the world, he comes to my parent-teacher meetings, despite his busy schedules and lectures.
While walking home with my third grade friends, we were singing together to Shinhwa’s Eusha Eusha, and dancing along to it. It’s a fun song and a lot of elementary school students still like singing that old school song. When we finished singing, everyone’s laughs turned into silence, as if everyone’s been thinking of the same thing at once.
“My mom is coming home from California this weekend. Who wants to come over and spend the day? She has presents for us!” Justin, one of my friends said, as a huge grin was plastered on his face.
“I can’t come. My mom and I are going to go grocery shopping. I promised I’ll help her do so since she’s busy with things and especially our business.” Mark answered, with a slight pout on his lips.
I stayed silent and just looked down on my shoes, trying to think of something else. Everyone looked at me, then at each other. I looked up, shaking my head and eye smiled.
“I’ll be visiting mommy tomorrow, so I can’t come. Guys, I’ll be going ahead. Daddy is waiting and he’s cooking up my favourite pasta. See you guys on Monday!” I said and bowed, waving ahead and ran towards our house.
Upon reaching home, I placed my bag on the couch and ran towards the kitchen, knowing that daddy is already cooking because the radio was turned on. I silently sneaked behind his back, giggling to myself then laid my hands on his waist.
“Daddy!!! Boo!” I shouted, making daddy drop the spoon on the counter, but he chuckled afterwards.
“Woooh. You scared me!” he said as he laughed, turning around to pick me up and spin my around in his arms. “I missed my boy. How was school today?” he inquired, smiling and moving some strands of my bangs away from my face.
“It was great daddy. I got an A+ on my science test!!” I replied, grinning ear to ear. He chuckled and kissed my forehead, hugging me close.
“My son is really smart. Just like his mom.” he said after my answer, then putting me down on the floor. “I made your favourite pasta since it’s Friday! Now, you wash up, change your clothes, and I’ll meet you here at the kitchen in thirty minutes, okay?” he winked and smiled, giving me our signature brofist, then I ran upstairs to my room.
I entered my room, gently closing the door behind me and rushed towards my desk, sitting on the computer chair. I smiled at the sight of the framed photo, and held it in my hands.
