The Test
Well where do I start? I mean how do you begin to describe what happened? How do you even start a story? Wait I remember!
First you need to set the scene...
Dad was really putting on a show tonight in the heavens, loud thunderclaps followed by blinding flashes of lightning. It was going to be one stormy night, but maybe it was the perfect backdrop for what was about to become. 15 teenagers gathered in the sky that night. All dressed like Gods (even though they weren't). Believe it or not I was one of them, the only one dressed like an Egyptian of course in my hand me down robes from my older sister Megrita. She was the perfect one in our family, I mean she is the fricken daughter of Hera for God's sake! She always gets her way, she's the most popular and everyone likes her. Why can't I be the one everyone loves, I'm always the one that's left out. Until I met him...
So yeah didn't really set the scene but oh well you learned something about me didn't you?
Four golden pillars lifted up the clouds, topped with a ceiling fringed with diamonds and jewels glittering from the rain that fell on them. We were all crowded round a huge fire in the middle of the room (if you'd call it that) it warmed us up though, which is what we needed seeing as there was no bloody walls! Megrita was stood in the middle next to her latest boyfriend Hercules (don't even ask why he's called that) trying to get everyone's attention. It didn't work which made me laugh, however I wasn't much of a help as I chattered eagerly to my best friend Lyra. Eventually Hercules must of felt sorry for Megrita as he shouted loudly for everyone to quieten down. The noise slowly faded as Megrita smiled and thanked Hercules, she turned back around and started to speak. "Thank you for meeting here everyone, as you all know the 5th of May is coming up soon which means we need to start preparing for the Test." A murmur of confusion went round as everyone wondered what she was talking about. I decided to help them out so I raised my hand to ask her what the hell she was on about.
As soon as my hand went up she called on me straight away, "Yes Alena you have a question?" I replied yes then asked out loud "What the hell is the Test?" Megrita laughed for a while as everyone became more and more confused, until she finally stopped and at last answered my question. "The Test is a tradition don't you know?" More confused looks and whispers went round the room. Meg continued to say... "Every time the moon rises on the 5th of May each year, five warriors are chosen to go into battle against the vicious Hades and his three sons." At the mention of his name I stiffened. "Each year we have won, and we are determined to carry on winning otherwise Hades and his sons will overthrow the heavens and we will all be his slaves for eternity." There was sudden gasps from the teens. "Which wouldn't be much fun for any of us would it?" A shake of heads from the crowd as she carried on explaining. "We test all 15 subjects on a routine of challenges throughout the weeks leading up to the 5th and finally five of you will be picked to fight." Some people seemed to be shivering with excitement and I could some were praying for their lives, however most people were confidently boasting that it would be them. They seemed pretty sure until Meg said the final bit? "You might be sure of yourselves now but be warned, not all of these tasks are easy I'm afraid and some might even kill you, but this is why it's called the Test." Now pretty much everyone was praying for their lives, some were even crying but I've got no choice I realised. I have to take part. I have to win! You see I have a secret that will get me killed if they find out. I'm in love....With one of Hades sons.
