*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

Her alarm blared. "Five more minutes please." The girl groggily slapped the alarm clock off the bed side table. It didn't stop beeping though. "UUUUUUUGH" she groaned rolling out of her bed and picking it up and turning it off.

She yawned and stretched. She hated waking up, because that always meant work. She had a low paying car repair job, along with her father's job that she picked up after he died. That didn't pay enough to support the family either.

She searched her messy room for something comfortable to wear. She finally decided on light black long sleeve shirt, brown  skinny jeans, and some orange sneakers. She threw her unbrushed auburn hair into a loose ponies tail, and left for the living room. Though she stopped to pick up her tools that were left in the hall.

The teenage girl plopped down on the sofa with a granola bar.
Just as she finished the door bell rang. There was a rustle in the kitchen "I got it mom!" She yelled and the rustling stopped.

Ugh it's that vault guy again! She decided to answer it anyway.

"Is this the Lance residence?" The man asked "yes" she replied "OK great! Your family has been selected to join vault techs program due to Mr. Nate Lance's time in the military." He explained. "All you need to do ma'am is sign here." He handed her a clip board and a pen.  She grabbed the pen. An infant's crying could be heard in the background. Fiona rolled her eyes and got to signing the paper. "Got a son back there?" The salesman questioned as if trying to make conversation. "Oh no... Brother" Fiona answered awkwardly. She finished up the paperwork and handed it back to the vault tec salesman "Thank you for your time-" she closed the door before he could finish.

Fiona immediately speed walked to her infant brother's room to comfort him. "H-hey won't stop crying" Shaun was still whaling as her mother held him. She was exhausted, seemed as though she hadn't slept in days. "Here let me have him" Fiona stood next to her mother and took Shaun in her arms.  The boy promptly stopped crying, staring wide eyed at his big sister. "I don't understand... w-why doesn't he like me" she frowned longingly at her son, wondering why he didn't take to her.

Maybe cuz you're never around...

But of course Fiona wouldn't say that to her mom. " Not sure.. babies are weird" she looked down at the baby she shared no blood with, but she felt the most for.  Her mother continued to stair at the baby in an awkward silence untill Fiona had checked her watch. "Mom I should head to work. Arden's probably waiting for me." "Of course honey. Ill just... Leave Shaun alone he's fine right?" "Yeah mom I'll be back around 2, call me if you need me." Fiona laid her brother down in the crib spinning the mobile for him. She flashed a quick smile at her mother before moving past her to the living room.

Fiona grabbed her tools strapping them to her belt. Suddenly the man on the news tone suddenly changed. She didn't pay attention till he started to tremble

"Flashes blinding flashes..." "Destinations in New York and Pennsylvania..." With that the station flipped to static and stand by. Anxiety surged through the teen as she heard screaming from outside along with whirling Vertibird. "Mom!" She yelled dropping her bag. Her mother rushed in holding her asleep brother. "Why's everyone running?" She asked panicking. "B-bombs mom we have to go!" Fiona desperately guided her mom out of the house following the panicked crowd.

The family eventually made it to a security gate, men in power armor people crowded around begging to be let in. "Were in the list!" Fiona shouted guiding her mother through the crowd of neighbours. "Adult female infant young adult female... Go ahead" the man stepped aside, and we were guided to the platform.

FIONA

gazed over at the others who weren't allowed in. "What's going to happen to them?" I spoke softly. No one answered. The platform started to rumble and we began to descend.  Then suddenly the bomb dropped. I would say it's beautiful if it had not meant the end of the world. Mom gripped my shoulder tightly as the doors above us shut.

We stood atop a platform in a line to get a jumpsuit, I was not particularly excited to put on such a tight piece of clothing. We were next in line, thankfully Shaun was still asleep. The lady had a condescending grin as she handed me the vault suit. Luckily I could slide it on over my clothes. Walking down the hall to this room of some kind of pods, I felt incredibly uncomfortable. "Just step inside, it's for decontamination." Everything about the vault made me uneasy, to make it worse Shaun started crying. I rushed over for my scattered mother trying to calm him down. "Hey buddy, shhh I'm here." I looked down at him in my mother's arms. He calmed down and I left to step in my pod. My mother was across from me, I faced her as the post began to get colder and colder. Eventually my consciousness left me.

About a minute later the world seemed to fade back into focus. A buzzing siren blared throughout the vault. Still hazy I started to move around whiping the fog off the glass. There was a man and woman infront of my mother and Shaun's capsule. The woman clad in hazmat opened the pod. I haven't seen these two when we arrived, there was something off about them. Mom coughed and gagged holding onto Shaun. The woman reached out for him but mom kept holding on "n-no I've got him!" She wrestled the woman to keep her son. Confused I banged on the glass. "What's going on?" I asked palming the glass. Why are they taking my brother? "Let the boy go." The man held a gun to her head. "NO leave them alone!" I screamed banging the glass harder.
"I'm not giving you Shaun!" She screamed. The man pulled the trigger with a bang my mother was gone.

For a second I couldn't scream I just stared ad they took my brother away closing her pod. My voice finally welled up in my chest I screamed curses at the man pounding my knuckles to the bone on the glass. "At least we still have the backup, she's whiny..." The man who shot her leaned right up to the glass, with a stupid grin. My pod began to chill again. The worst part was I couldn't hold her. I couldn't do anything. I had to just watch her get her brains blown out the back of her head. To see my infant brother be taken from her. I continued to scream and punch the glass until I was no longer conscious.
