As the DODGE drove up to the school, my stomach churned reliving the hell I had lived though here the last two years. My breath caught in my throat. Ashley looked at me, a concerned look on her face.

"You okay?"

"I'm fine." I fake a smile, but I knew I was getting too good at telling that lie.

"You sure?"

"Positive!" Another fake smile.

She searched my eyes for a second unsure if she should believe me. In the end of her little argument with herself she finally believed me. I let a breath out of relief.

"Okay, Let's go! Today is going to be a good day I can feel it!" She jumps out kf the car. I hoped it would be but deep in my heart I knew it was foolish to even give in to that hope.

I finally step out the car, slamming the doos. I look up at the huge building, take a deep breath to calm my nerves and finally I force myself to walk in.

In the small town of Pepperton there was one high school. Built with brick sometime in the 1800s it was huge despite the small population in the town. We had a pool, a football stadium and a track field. This place so big held all my memories, all my fears, and all my days to come.

We walked into the overly air conditioned front office to get our schedules. It was still warm even though technically it was fall.

"Looks like Mrs.Fisher is gone!" Ashley whispered to me. Mrs.Fisher was the old secretary. She always wore a tight bun, not a hair out of place which also described her personality. Her face was stern and you knew if you did anything bad in front of her she would put the fear of god into you. Literally. Every soul in this school was afraid if her, even the principal.

Replacing her was a young blonde with a huge smile on her face and warm blue eyes. Ashley looked at me and mouthed an excited YES! to me. I smiled and walked towards the new blonde secretary. In front of us making polite conversation was a boy in a red hoodie, black skinny jeans and black vans. As he turned around to leave I finally saw his face. Blue eyes. Tan skin. Austin Jenner. Panic seized my heart, seeming to squeeze it making it harder to breathe. Ashley grabbed my hand and gave it a small squeeze

"Nicky! Soooo great to see you. You look so ... ravishing this year. What did you do? Actually try and put make up on? Does your daddy approve? Oh wait you don't have one. Sorry my mistake." His voice was dripping with so much sarcasm I could feel it. He smirked and walked out of the office laughing at his cleverness.

I was left wondering what I ever did to deserve my life.

"He's an ass. Ignore him okay? You are so much better than him." Ashley hugged me.

"You girls okay?" The blonde secretary asked.

"I'm fine." It's amazing how easy it is to say those two words.

She smiles. "That's good." She drops her voice to a whisper. " I agree with your friend, He is totally an ass." She winks. Ash and I both look at each other with wide eyes and burst out laughing. This secretary isn't so bad.

"Your names? I'm assuming you want your schedule unless you just came in to see the new secretary. I'm Megan Keys. You can call me Meg."

"Ashley Slane" Ash points to me. "And Nicolette Hayes."

I jump in, "Call me Nicky, I hate Nicolette. Nice to meet you Meg!"

"Here are you schedules, ladies."

"Thank you. As much as I like you, I do hope we won't be seeing you, considering we would be in trouble." Ashley said as we were leaving. All I heard in response was a loud laugh.
