Dear girl in a mask,

I'm sorry that you go through what you do and I'm sorry that I'm unable to be there for you. Well, I can be but sometimes it's hard to see through the mask that you wear so well. I'm blind to it all now; you've been wearing it for so long. It's amazing how much it blends in. How long has it been going on for? It's funny how even you don't know and how you desperately believe you'll be happy one day. After playing the perfect part for so long it just has to happen, right? Just ignore the haters and fulfil your desires they say. You'll be okay they say. But little do they know that ignoring the bullies isn't easy, especially when you're biggest one follows you around and spends every living second in your mind, sending you spiralling down the stairs of self-doubt. It's dark. How do you ignore it if it lives in you, breathes in you and controls every single part of you? How can you ignore it if it eats you up inside? Chews you up and spits you out: a slobbery, broken mess for the whole world to see. How can you fulfil your desires if you don't even have the desire to live?

Sincerely,

Anonymous
