Maddie was beginning to think she was the only one unaffected by the power outage, or whatever it was. Maddie was just about to check on her brother when she heard a faint knocking sound coming from the front door. At that moment she knew she wasn't alone.
She dashed down the stairs like her life depended on it, as she would find out later, in a way, it did.
