The Other Sister

Chapter 2

Jase and Annaline went to his room to speak, that way they could have a bit of privacy. He knew that they had some time to speak before Emily came to look for them. The boys still hadn't arrived.

"I'm sorry," He told her after he closed his door. "I didn't mean to upset you in the truck."

"I know you didn't, Jase." She told him, sitting down on his bed. He liked that she was acting so comfortable in his room, that she was comfortable around him. "I'm sorry I just hurried out of there. I should've talked to you."

"What exactly happened, Annaline?" He asked, sitting next to her. She moved closer to him, which eased his worry of her never coming around him again.

"We've only known each other for a week, Jase. I'm not used to the way things are between us. Everything's happened so fast and I don't really know what to do." She said.

Jase understood what she was trying to tell him without actually saying it out loud. He couldn't blame her. They had only known each other a week. Not only that, but he was known as a player. She had to be worried about that too.

"Well, how about we slow things down?" He asked her. He had to find some way to make her feel more comfortable around him until she trusted him. He couldn't lose her now.

"I'd like that." She said. She put her head on his shoulder. "I don't want things to be uncomfortable between us. You mean too much to me."

"You mean too much to me too." He said, pulling her as close as he could. Just then, his sister walked in. He saw the look of pure shock on her face.

"What is going on in here?"

"I don't trust him to not try anything, Annaline!" Emily exclaimed. They were in her room now and Annaline was trying to explain what had happened.

"I do, Em. I trust him." Annaline said. "You may not understand why, but I do."

"Then explain it to me, Annaline! Explain to me why you trust him so much!" She exclaimed. Annaline sighed. She knew her friend wouldn't calm down until she told her.

"I trust him because he doesn't treat me like almost everyone else, Em. He cares about what I want and how I feel. He doesn't push me. That's why I trust him." She calmly explained. After hearing this, Emily seemed to lose her fight.

"I don't completely trust him, but I can see that you do." She said. "I can respect that. But, if he does hurt you or tries to push you into doing something you don't want to, please tell me."

"I will, Em." She said, getting up to hug her friend. "I forgot to tell you happy birthday when I came in, so happy birthday."

"Thanks, Li." She said, hugging her back. Annaline was glad things were okay between her and her best-friend. She didn't know what she would do without Emily.

"You know, you said you don't trust him not to do anything, but when he had an opportunity in the truck and didn't take it." She told Emily, remembering what had happened. He had looked like he was going to kiss her, but pulled away before he did. When she told that to Emily, she looked shocked.

"You mean he was going to kiss you and didn't?" Emily asked.

"That's what it seemed like." Annaline answered. Emily smiled softly.

"Maybe he'll change." She said. Annaline smiled at her friend.

"He could, I just don't know if he will. I'm not giving him any reason to wait for me." She said. Emily just shook her head.
