Ahh, yes... It was a bright and sunny day outside. Perfect for running, skipping, dancing, and other silly things that average people do these days
Well, it would have been nice if I weren't a starving, twelve year old girl, stealing food from little wooden carts, because her asshole parents didn't want to take care of her anymore.
The cream colored pillowcase wrapped loosely around my body were what I considered a very fashionable outfit, and the dirt stains making up for lovely accessories.
So, I didn't exactly consider myself average.
Love you, too, parents from hell.A tiny fruit stand stood in the center of the village market, and my next target, a sack of shiny red, yellow, and green apples, sat on display for everyone to see.
The easy part was getting there without being noticed. The hard part was making sure that a certain sack of apples wasn't noticed as missing either.
I stared down the street, staying hidden in the shadows, trying to visualize a decent pathway to the fruit stand.
My chances to run were slowly slipping away from my grasp, so I got up quickly and quietly and started to move toward my "dinner".
The wind seemed to pick up a bit as I bounced from shadow to shadow, causing my pillowcase to flap softly against my leg.
I reached the cart and crouched down behind it, still trying to stay unnoticed. The cart was now towering over me as I waited patiently for the right moment to grab the sack of apples and run.
My eye had begun to twitch impatiently, so I reached my hand up, barely able to see what I was doing, wrapped my fingers around a part of the sack, and gave a little tug.
Except it didn't fall silently into my hands, like it normally did.
I had grabbed the wrong sack of apples. Unlike the original, this one had other fruits stacked neatly on top of it, I couldn't see at first.
Now I could see them as they were now dropping on top and all around me. Of course, it made loud crashing noises and of course I fell over backwards. I have never really been lucky with these sort of things.
The man running the cart turned around with a confused expression at first that soon turned to intolerance and anger.
For a moment I just say there in a daze.
However, it didn't take me long to realize that this guy had grabbed a large wooden stick, and was threateningly smacking it upon his palm, waking closer to me.
I then scrambled to my feet, still holding the apple sack. Other random fruits rolled off my chest and into the ground.
Then a stupid, oversized pineapple fell off my arm and landed on my bare toe.
Let's just say that pineapples don't make amazing foot massagers. Quite the opposite actually.
Except this guy was now a little too close for comfort.I started to run, but the pain in my toe caused me to trip over my own feet and land on the ground with a thud. Yet again with the bad luck.
"Damn you pineapple..." I hissed under my breath. Because cursing at pineapples made everything sooo much better...
I got up again and started to move away with the apples, as fast as I could. My ankle must have been twisted too because it hurt pretty badly.
"You! Hey, you person!" The guy was yelling and chasing after me now. "You girl, get back here!"
"I have a name, you know!" I called back in the most nasty and childish voice I could. Then that middle finger of mine was way up in the air.
I laughed slightly at this because I had made a joke.
None had ever given me a name in my life, or at least that I could remember.
Get it? Funny. Ha ha ha.I ran along the old sidewalk feeling pretty successful after what had happened earlier. Those apples were mine.
The moon began to shine down brightly through the cloudy sky, as the sun started to sink behind the horizon.
For some people every day was relaxing and beautiful. Kids who had a family, a home, delicious food to eat, and many other wonderful things. Except those were all the things I didn't have.
I don't remember ever having a real family. All I remember is being really young and living with the town elder.
However, everyone has to move on to the afterlife at some point, right? Except he could have moved on just a bit more peacefully than being stabbed by some psycho in red tights, wearing a mask.
I sighed at the thought of my old caretaker. How I missed his beard and fresh baked cookies.
The place I currently called home was already pretty far away, not counting how high I had to climb.
My running had slowed to a stroll and the moon was now all the way in the air, illuminating the night sky. Everyone was all tucked away safely in their homes, afraid of what might be waiting outside to come and destroy their lives.
People here were so scared to come out after dark because of others who had disappeared. That's when the guards from the city came to start patrolling the villages to make sure that the people were safe. Or at least that's what the people thought.
Our country was a small one that went by the name of Lumina, though most who lived here had all begun to call it Thieves because here it was either steal or be stolen from just to survive.
Every time a new queen came into rule, she would lose her original name and take on the title of Queen of Lumina, or just Lumi, but that was all she was and ever would be for the rest of her life.
