I walked in the dark woods, my bow ready for anything that would come at us. "Shh." I whispered. I gave the signal to come as I walked around a bush. My group quietly fallowed. I heard a twig snap to my right and I quickly shot my head to the sound. I readied my bow, pointing at the giant bush. Two rabbits came hopping out and I shot them both.
I quietly walked towards the dead rabbits and shoved them into a bag Ashley was holding. "Eew." She whispered. I smile and continue with my hunt. "Melanie it's getting dark." Whispered Ashley, looking up at the sunset. I nod. "C'mon kid." I said, throwing Rosalyn onto my back for a piggy back ride.
She giggled on my back and I held her sister Jessel's hand.
We walked back to our camp and gave Carjule the rabbits. "I know it's not much but whatever." I said. He laughed and pulled the rabbits out by there ears. "Good job Stone." He said. "Thanks Maule." I replied. He chuckled and stabbed the rabbits throughout the stomach and sticking it over the fire. I jumped on the hammock and starting reading The Host.
During chapter 38 I heard a loud, ear splitting scream that made me jump and fall off the hammock and jump to my feet. "Don't worry it's not from our group." I whispered to Rosalyn and Jessel. "C'mon into the rv."
I gently pushed them towards the rv. "Now the scream was close so that means they're close, hide in the bathroom, lock the doors and don't make a peep. Carjule will be on the roof making sure you guys are safe." I said to them. They were crying, but still fallowed my rules. "Don't worry well all be okay." I said. I hugged them. I could see the fear in their eyes. "I love you guys okay." I said, staying as calm as I could. If you weren't calm the kids wouldn't be.
I shut the door and locked it after putting some other people in their. Carjule climbed onto the roof of the rv with his sniper and Ashley and I got our bows ready. Jessica grabbed her shotgun and so did her brother Jone. "Carjule keep an eye on them. Don't let them close to the kids. If it's less then one then do it silently." I said to Carjule who was now on the roof of the rv.
He nodded and I started to walk into the woods, fallowed by Jessica, Jone, Kimberly, Carter, and Nathan. "We need to split up. Nathan you take Jone and Kimberly. Carter and Jessica fallow me. Don't go far stay close to the camp." I said to Nathan. He nodded and readied his bow. I readied my bow. "We won't be gone long." I said to Carjule and walked into the woods.
"This way." I said, moving my index and middle finger to come. They fallowed. I heard whispers, saying "keep it down" and "this way." It was not my groups whispers, it was not Jessica or Carter. Not Carjule, not the kids, not Nathan, Ashley, Kimberly, or Jone. It was another group. A man is what I could hear.
I shook my head, thinking I was just imagining it. Twigs cracked under our feet. Leaves started to fall to the ground. Winter was almost here.
