My eyes opened to see Mitch sleeping soundlessly next to me. I slowly got up to see that it was going on eleven o'clock at night. I crept out of Mitch's bedroom and made my way downstairs. I placed my shoes, that are still damp from earlier this morning, onto my feet. Kurama came running towards me from the living room. My heart ached knowing that Kurama would be better off staying here where he can be warm with a nice full belly. I kneeled down and kissed his forehead. "I'll be sure to keep an eye on him while you're gone," a voice from the far side of the corner of the living room spoke.
"Thanks Glen," I smiled sadly with a sniffle while I got back onto my feet.
Glen came over to me and held out his hand, "It was a pleasure."
It was tricky to see where Glen's hand was as the dim firelight shined behind him. My palms touched smooth wrinkles stacked above each other as Glen retrieved his hand back. I looked down to see that Glen had given me some money. "Mr. Rogers hopes this will be enough money until you can get somewhere safe. I've chipped in a bit."
"It's kind of you, but I can't take th—"
"Shh, shh," Glen gently silenced me. "Mr. Rogers expects some form of contact by the end if the week."
Glen opened the door for the chilling breeze to harshly graze my cheek. "Tell Mitch I love him, ok?"
"Will do."
I took a deep breath while zippering the heavy whiter coat given to me before stepping out of the mansion.
The further I walked away from the mansion, the more I wanted to turn back. The tears that I refused to shed earlier were now pouring down my cheeks non stop. Aww, no one wants little old Paige around, the menacing voice from the bathroom spoke.
Leave her alone! Charlie retorted.
I wiped my tears. "It doesn't matter," I claimed.
The cruel voice started to whisper something I couldn't quite make out form a loud, navy blue car driving by. My heart began to pound against my chest as the car stopped a few feet away from me. A small portion of me hoped it would be Mitch coming to bring me back to the mansion, but I knew it would have been a slim chance. By the looks from the misty, midnight blue light, it couldn't be no later than three o'clock in the morning. I perceived a tiny circle, small as a penny, on the back of my head. I shifted my gaze over my bicep as I was in the middle of wiping a tear from my cheek to see a man with jet black hair and a clean, close cut beard behind a shade of sunglasses. "Don't move," the man ordered as I heard Charlie gave me some instructions.
Now, Charlie said, giving me the go.
I abruptly moved my head to the side while pushing the gun away from me. My elbow slammed into the side of the man's head. Arms came around me and held me still as the man in the sunglasses bent down to pick up the fun that fell out of his hands. I smashed my knee against his face while I bashed the back of my head to the nose of the man restraining me. When the man released his grip, I started to run towards the woods that stood alongside of the road. A sudden jolt ran up my left from the back of my knee. I collapsed onto the ground with my hands in front of me. I viewed my leg to see that I have been shot. The man with the crack in his sunglasses pointed the gun at me. He placed his foot on the middle of my back and pushed me down. The man bleeding from his nose picked me up off of the ground as the sunglasses man followed the movement with his gun, ready to shoot if I were to make any sudden movements. An almond man dressed in black walked hastily towards me and placed a cloth over my mouth and nose. In the matter of seconds, my eyes started to grow heavy as it was impossible to stay conscious.
