I wondered and wondered, until he snapped his fingers infront of my face. It took me a moment to get out of my 'thinking world'. I looked up at him and when I looked into his forest green eyes, I snapped back into reality. I tried to remember the question as my brain and mouth tried to connect with each other.
"I don't know," I finally found the words.
"What is not to believe," he said while pushing his hand through his hair, a very Caleb thing of him to do.
"Trick question, Caleb." I shrug. He rolls his eyes deliberately.
"If you would have asked me that question two years ago I would have said that you have my full trust, but now," I looked around us and waved my hand in the air a bit, "I don't think that is the answer I have in mind." His face dropped and he pushed his hand once again through his hair. He looked up from the ground when he finished.
"Ana, what have I done to you for you not to trust me... Let alone believe me?" He questioned in disbelief. I shrugged, he slouched his shoulders.
"I don't know. You haven't really given me anything for me to trust you about," I say and ponder on the question, "And what is up with that tone and attitude?"
While finishing the last few words, I grabbed my things and made it for the door. Only for a hand to grab my wrist. I pulled my wrist out of his hand and turned around, facing him. Was he sorry? More importantly, about what?
"Please, think about it," he said. I just nodded, turned around and left him in the class.
Why does this matter to him is beyond me.
Millions of things, memories, words, events... swam through my mind. Just 5 minutes ago I was in class, not a care in the world and now I have a decision to make?! I was thinking back to 6th grade, to the last time I ever trusted him. To the last time he talked to me without that attitude....
FLASHBACK
"Come on Ann!" Caleb yelled from the other side of the monkey bars. He's been trying to get me to do it for the past 20 minutes.
"Anna the break is almost over, trust me!" He yelled once more. So I took the first bar in my hands and lifted my feet off the ledge so I was dangling by my hands only.
"Yes your doing it!" He screeched. Caleb was pushing me to do it till the end. He bounced off the ledge and held on to one of the bars, so he was facing me swinging from the monkey bars. We were one bar apart when he took one of his hands off the bar, stretched it towards me and tickled me. I giggled, lost balance and fell on my back with a loud thud.
"Caleb!" I yelled and started to giggle and cry at the same time.
"Anna, shit are you ok?!!?" He was mortified, he always said bad words even though we were always told not to. He leaned down next to me and watched a tear silently roll down my cheek.
Now he swears ten times more than he did.
"Anna...." he sighed while wiping the tear, "come on, get up."
He helped me up and we sarted laughing at the situation we were in as he rubbed his hand softly on my back. After that, we tried again and failed. Then again, we failed again. We paused and laughed for a good 15 minutes then the bell rang. We both groaned and started the walk to class.
"I'm never gonna trust you, ever again." I said, he looked over at me and smiled. I smiled back, but I heard him mumble something along the lines of....
"Someday....." Caleb said.
I snapped out of "memory lane" when I saw all of the 'squad' gathered. I opened the door and stepped out into the school's yard. Once the door shut, everyone spun around and came running towards me.
"Ana!!!" was all I heard after being drowned in hugs. Rachel, Skyla, Samantha, Diala, Peter, Adam, Samuel, Elliot and Jayden hurled themselves at me. I gave all the girls huge hugs and bro-shaked with the dudes. I was never the type to hug guys. I feel like they all secretly hate me for some reason.
"Damn gurl!" Skyla stepped back and gave me a once over.
"Sky..." I nudged her and she giggled. Sky was the most straight-forward girl ever. She's a gymnast and really pretty. A brunette with hazel colored eyes. We used to fight alot, jealously I guess. But now we are closer than ever.
I knew Rachel, Samantha and Diala since I could remember. Sam was the cutest, with her charcoal clolored hair and stunning brown eyes, she could win over anyone. She was tiny but fierce. Rachel was a beauty queen. She had a model like body and was really active.
Diala was the most layed-back girl ever. She was honest and would slap you in a heartbeat. Hazel hair with gold highlights and honey brown eyes. They were all hilarious and made the most cornyest jokes ever.
The dudes were all the same. We fight, talk, and act like siblings. Adam had brown hair and ocean blue eyes, he was a ladies man. Samuel was the tallest and most talkative out of all of them. He was a typical guy. Brown hair and I think brown eyes and glasses.
Elliot was the quiet one, he was really silly but quiet. Jayden was just normal. He had a hella lot of hair, like a bush, and wore glasses. I bickered the most with him.
They were all my ride or die. It was mutual between us all and I loved that. We did everything together. We've all been friends since 1st grade. It's fun to be in a 'squad'.
