Sweet and Salty.

It was extremely boring procrastinating by myself, so I texted Jack to help me pass the time.

Being home alone is boring, you free? -Becky.

It was only a couple of minutes before Jack replied. Always on his phone he is.

Be there in twenty - Jack.

I decided to grab some food from my mums secret stash, that everyone knows about. Setting out food in little coloured bowls and picked out an array of Disney movies.

Five minutes later there was a ring at the door. Of course Jack would be early.

I wandered to the door and pulled the handle, opening the door. Although to my surprise it wasn't Jack. It was Dan.

He was standing leaned up against the door frame in the stereotypical bad boy way. He was wearing a top that clung to his body, revealing his toned stomach beneath. He had some branded backpack on slung over one shoulder, which seemed to be almost completely empty apart from a rectangular object. I thought it was just a notebook or a binder.

"Hey. " he said smoothly.

"Hello?" I questioned.

"May I come in?" He asked.

"You have ten minutes, I'm expecting people over. "

"Okay it won't take too long, just needed to give you something."

"Um okay? I question, unsure of what he meant. Maybe I had left something in his car or at his aunts coffee shop. I don't know.

He made his way through to the kitchen. He knew the house well as he had been there many times before. I followed, cautiously. I was scared because I didn't know what to expect.

He swung his backpack off of his shoulder, landing it on the kitchen island. He unzipped the bag and lifted out a sleek black box, about the size of a small ring binder. It had a glossy black ribbon around it.

He came all this way to give a present? This boy really is trying to change.

I looked up at him warily just to make sure it wasn't a prank. He was smiling, not a massive grin like he did when he was guilty of something, but a genuine smile. I shrugged off my worries and opened the box.

"You didn't!" I shout in a mix of excitement and shock.

"I did. You deserve it after helping me all day." He smiled awkwardly.

"But it was so expensive. It's too much Dan I couldn't pay you back for this."

"Then don't, it's a gift. Plus I have more money than I know what to do with, might as well do something good with it."

"Thank you Dan, this is so sweet." I pulled him into a grateful embrace. Astonishingly he didn't push me away; instead he pulled me in closer.

"It's no biggie. " he laughed.

I wasn't sure what to say so we just stood arms around each other for a comfortable minute or two before I realised Jack was going to arrive in five minutes.

"As much as I feel super awful for doing this, I'm expecting someone to arrive in five minutes so is there any way we could reschedule a meet up next Wednesday, here? My parents are away working that night so we'd be have to house to ourselves." I said as casually as possible.

"It's a date." He smiled, giving me a high five and making his way towards the door.

"Thanks again Dan, it's beautiful." I thank.

"Especially on you." He says, the smirk returning to his face. I simply rolled my eyes at his childish act as he closed the door behind him.
