Music was blaring through the speakers of my VW Beetle as I drove down the dark foggy road. My phone beeped at me to let me know I have one new text from one of my friends. I glanced down at the screen for a split second and when I looked up I quickly hit the brakes. My car went spinning out of control;coming to a halt when I hit a tree on the side of the road. There was a tall lean figure that stood in the road which caused me to swerve off the side. I placed my hand on my forehead. When I brought it back down to my view I saw blood. The radio was filled with static, my headlights flickered, and I suddenly got the feeling that someone was watching me. I unbuckled, grabbing my phone and flipping the video camera on, I got out of my car and went back up to the road where I last saw the figure. The figure was gone. I scanned around both ways but saw nothing.
"What the hell was that?" I mumbled to myself.
I didn't see any cars for an hour so I called my dad-the sheriff of Blood Haven- to tell him my incident. While I waited I turned my flashlight on as I sat down in the grass to wait for my dad. The feeling that someone was watching me went away.

Later that night when I got home and went to bed, I had a nightmare that felt so real. In the nightmare I was back out on the foggy road but I wasn't in my car. The same figure I saw on the road was there. I walked towards the figure but no matter how close I got it got farther away from me. My dream shifted then and I was trapped in my car which was barreling towards the railing on some bridge and heading for the water beneath it. Before the car went off is when I woke up gasping for air. I looked around my dark room noting that everything was going to be fine. Sitting up in bed made me realize what I wanted to do. I decided to investigate the road where I crashed to see if I could find out who that was standing in the middle of the road. I wasn't sure what I was looking for when I first started this investigation but the more I dug up on this town, the more I wished I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
The next day dad drove me to school since my car was in the shop getting repaired for the first time. The ride was mostly filled with silence. If your wondering about my mom, don't. She was put in an institution when I was born. She's got psychological problems which is genetic. During one of my free hours I got called into the principals office to give a tour guide to a new student. He is hot by the way. I didn't introduce myself until after we were outside the principals office.
"I'm Chloe." I held out my hand.
"Cole." He shook my hand.
"So what brings you to this dainty little town and school?" I asked out of curiosity.
"I like change. Plus who wouldn't want to go to a school where the mascot is a Raven?"
"What do you mean by change?"
"You are so paranoid and you ask a lot of questions. Tell me why haven't you left this town yet?"
"Why would I leave? I grew up here." I crossed my arms.
"Chloe, things are not as they seem. Looks like this is my stop. Bye now." Cole was gone into the classroom before I could ask anymore questions.
What did he mean things aren't as they seem? I thought about that question for most of the day until the bell for lunch rang. After getting my tray I sat down with my two best guy friends, one of whom was gay in the group and the other one a cliche geek. I sat there listening to the two of them gossip about stupid subjects I could care less about. My eyes panned the cafeteria only to stop on Cole. He was at the popular table. Of course he was. I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"What do you guys think about the new kid?" I asked both Eli and Flynn.
"Girl he looks yummy! Pounce on it before I do." Flynn answered like Cole was some sort of eye-candy.
"Well given the fact that he's already in with the popular kids suggests he was a jock at his old school." Eli pushed his glasses up.
"Why do you think he left?" I asked aloud.
"Maybe he got kicked out." Eli answered.
"He told me it was because he needed a change. He also said something else that was a bit odd but I don't feel like repeating it." I shifted my gaze back towards Cole.
"OMG Chloe! You are totally into him!" Flynn basically shouted.
"Yeah because everyone is a whore who falls for guys fast and then sleeps with them." I rolled my eyes, sarcasm playing in my voice.
The bell rang which gave me time to slip away before Flynn could say anything more. The rest of the day wasn't very exciting. After school I decided to walk to the public library to study up on the town's history. On my way out the door I bumped into Cole.
"Watch where your going." I said in a cool tone.
"Where are you headed?" Cole asked.
"Not that it's any of your business but I'm going to walk to the library."
"Let me give you a ride."
"I'd rather get hit by lightning."
"Fine have it your way. Oh and there's a party going on Friday and you should come."
"Maybe." I couldn't help but let a small smile slip on my lips.
"See you there, Chloe." Cole turned on his heel and walked away.
What just happened? I don't ever get all heart eyes over anyone. I shook my head then got started on the four block journey to the library.
I flipped through multiple stacks of books on the town but I haven't found anything useful until I found a book that looked to be here since 1720. I picked it up, blowing off the dust that covered it. It was worn out and fragile looking. I began flipping through the pages which talked about events that unfolded including a massacre that had happened to some poor village that used to be here. People were killed by a cult called Blood Moon. I kept flipping the pages finding a list of names of all those who were there during the horrific events. I gasped when I saw Eli and Flynn's name along with Cole's name. I also saw the name of my ancestors. According to this book they were hunters who hunted supernatural creatures. They formed an alliance with certain creatures to take down the Blood Moon cult along with its leader; Marcel. I didn't find much else that was interesting. I took pictures of the pages with my phone before I finally left the library to head home that night.
