Chapter 4

"Ooooohhaaaaaa!" I squealed excitedly, bringing my hands to my face as I looked up at the gorgeous black castle.

On the front, above the door, was a logo of a mushroom and some type of red weapon crossing each other. Duncan walked cautiously forwards, then knocked on the door. Suddenly, a blue forcefield surrounded us, and the scientist hurried back to me while pulling out and putting on a strange sciencey power glove and armour. A man with purple eyes, a blond streak in the front of his hair, and a purple cape flew out of his hiding place.

"I knew you'd come eventually, Duncan." He growled, a black ring on his finger.

"I just came to talk. I brought someone you might like, she loves magic and can't stand science." Duncan replied smoothly.

Who I assume is Rythian looked at me for the first time, and snorted. "So she hates science enough to be with you, then?"

"She has a name, you know." I said, rolling my eyes. "Her name is Infinity, not that you'd care..."

"Well, Miss 'Infinity', what are you doing with Duncan?"

"Uh... from the start, I fell from the sky, into the ocean, and drowned, Simon and Lewis found me, brought me back to the Jaffa Factory and... yeah, stayed there for a little while. Then went to visit Martyn and Toby as I got bored with all the science, then came back, to ask where you were so I could come and see you 'cuz I've heard we're alike in a lot of ways." I said with a gasp of breath at the end, seeing as I didn't breathe all the way through.

"If you drowned, how come you're alive?" He replied sceptically.

"I have a will to live."

"Right... well, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that there is a red matter bomb underneath you, and it is set to explode in five minutes. Enjoy failing." He said, waving a hand then flying off.

I looked to Duncan, who seemed frozen in place with fear etched on his features, before shrugging and sauntering off into the building. The whole place seemed empty. I guess Rythian didn't mind rebuilding his castle, and just took all the supplies. Stairs. I went up them, looking in one room and seeing a load of bookshelves, all still full of knowledgeable books. Pulling one out, I breathed over the cover and dust flew off, revealing blue-ish text. 'Elves'. I opened it, and saw detailed illustrations of gorgeous female elves and handsome males, every one different in some away or another. The next chapter detailed about what they could do, for instance they were usually good archers, and could play great music. But the chapter after that was what caught my attention, the element elves. These elves were a rare occurrence, but occasionally an elf with slightly different coloured skin was born, each with a symbol on their right ear representing what element they could control. Some were given a powerful amulet that could help when casting harder spells, but only the higher classes got them, for instance royalty. They were generally made of a thin piece of dyed rope, then a segment of bamboo cut in half with the element carved into it.

A later statement brought tears to my eyes. All but four elves were wiped out overnight, and these four elves are believed to be element elves, and of high status. They disguised themselves as humans to fit in. Two of them were found out, and they controlled air and fire. Only earth and water remain, presumably still hiding amongst humans.

It's a horrible thought, a whole civilisation slaughtered...

I tried to take my mind off it by grabbing another book. This one looked like it had barely ever been touched. It was entitled 'Water spells', and wasn't particularly big. Probably aren't many spells including water. I flicked through it, occasionally stopping on the odd page that caught my eye and memorising the spell, before continuing. I need to find a way to get out.

This one looks promising, water teleportation. You swap your body with water, then change it for water in the location you want to go to, once there change back to a human. Seems pretty hard... especially seeing as I'm on a time limit and have to take Duncan with me. I dropped the books, then ran down the stairs again, seeing the scientist in a massive hole that he must've dug. Before shouting down to him, I decided to test and see if I could do the spell first. I closed my eyes, one hand by my side and the other over my heart, then imagined the tiny dew drops on the grass beneath my feet. I felt coolness creep up my legs, then warmth again, and I opened my eyes to see massive green towers. Grass? It must've worked... I thought about the water on the other side of the pit, and I felt like I was being thrown through space, before I went back to the watery feeling again. With open eyes, I became a person again, and it was a strange sight to see. Drops of water circled me, seeming to come off me, then fall to the ground or disappear in the air, and I found myself standing tall once more on two feet.

I jumped into the hole, grabbing Duncan's non-robot hand, and he jumped, turning and giving me a panicked look.

"We have to defuse the bomb, or both of is will die!" He cried, attempting to go back to digging to reach the underground bomb.

"Calm down. I can get us out of here." I said gently, placing my other hand on his shoulder.

"How?! We're trapped inside a forcefield, we can't just walk out!"

"Magic. We get out by magic." I closed eyes and Duncan disappeared from my grasp.

Hopefully I did the spell correctly, and he's at Honeydew Inc. Loud beeps brought me back to reality, and I remembered the time limit.

Three.

I concentrated hard on Honeydew Inc.

Two.

I clenched both my hands into fists.

One.

The magic wouldn't come, I couldn't keep my focus.

Zero.

A huge boom registered in my brain before I went flying through the air along with a blur of debris, me slamming against the forcefield, debris breaking apart and falling. I heard and felt a crack in my arm, and my back felt as if it was on fire. Then everything went black.
