I come upon a small cabin as I walk though the snow covered forest. the faded wood of the cabin seemed to spring back to life as I step on to the small porch. the faded fir door seemed to sing with the memory's of old times.
Slowly I touch the cool worn wood. looking down at the small brass key hole, tarnished and old. I pull out a small dull key similar to the key hole. turning it over in my hand, the warm metal object seemed to fade as the cold air touched it.
the key fit snuggly into the lock as I slowly turned it. I hear the sound of the tumblers turning as the door unlocks.
As I walk in I'm greeted with the faint smell of cloves and cinnamon. a small table in the middle of the room covered in a thin layer of dust. A small lantern sits among the dust begging for the light and warmth of a candle. as I light the lantern , all corner of the room seem to flood with light as if a dam just broke. the light from the lantern illuminated a small brick fireplace. wood and kindling still in the fireplace ready to be lit. within a few minutes the fire was roaring like a lion as if in a circus.
Walking with lantern in hand I see the small stair case leading up to the second level shrouded in darkness. as I head up I see picture frames of friends of old times and other universes. smiling from the memory's that flooded my head I continue up. at the top I'm greeted with a small dimly lit hallway with a door on each side of the hall . I continue walking pass the two doors. both different yet similar when looked at. as the end of the hallway stands a oak door with intercut carvings of leaves and vines covered the door as if they were carved with magic.
there is not door knob on the door so I lightly tough my hand to the crescent moon that adored the middle. glowing a brilliant gold light the door slowly opened to revel as room that seemed to be untouched from the day I left. no bed could be found in the room but a desk with papers and various colors of inks scattered across it. as I walk to the desk I see a large glass case .inside the case stood a soot of armor and a picture . looking at the armor it was like it was frozen in time . the picture had a me and a lady dressed in the armor smiling, swords on our hips. along the bottom of the frame it read " my best friend Lucida" . looking back at the photo I feel a tear run down my face, what happen to her is a different story.
turning away I walk out of the room closing the door and walking down the stairs to the small kitchen. the fire had gone out. raking old soot over the fresh ash I stated to put kindling and wood back in there place ready for the next time I come to visit. slowly I place the lantern in its spot on the table. carefully and swift I blew out the candle and preseated out of the house. closing the door I lock the brass lock and walk back into the forest.
a few feet inside the cover of the forest I activate my magic and walk back into the void. waiting for the time I am needed again.
