I am sorry but I am not available to take your call right now. Please leave a message after the tone and I promise ill-

‘YEAH RIGHT, YOU’LL GET BACK TO ME? HOW COME AFTER 5 VOICMAILS I HAVENT RECIVED A SINGLE CALL FROM YOU?’ I shout down the phone at my mother’s pre-recorded message (the number had FINALLY started working again). As I was in Starbucks, I kinda freaked out a lot of the customers who were already staring at the girl-skipping-school-dressed-in-a-school-uniform as I sip (well until now) quietly at my chai latte.

Yes I know skipping school is bad and should not be done (so don’t skip school kids!) but after my freak out and the runner made sure I was okay, I needed to get away from the house. I needed to get far, far away from the horrible memories circulating around my old house that I would never go back to.  Not now, not ever.

In front of me I had a napkin and it was staring at me. No, I’m NOT crazy, but it was calling to me and I don’t know why. I picked it up and turned it around and around. Then I realized what I was thinking of. Paper! I needed paper so I could write a plan!

After contemplating for a while this was all I could come up with:

1)      Go to school (crazy I know)

2)      Recruit my friends for a ghost busting team (even crazier….)

3)      Go back to the graveyard with my team and sort it out where it all first started (okay fine! I’m crazy)

“I’m sorry miss evens but I can’t except this excuse without any note form your parents.” My head teacher Mr Gert reals off in his monotone voice after my long explanation of being at the doctors for the last 3 hours. Needless to say, he didn’t believe me.

“But sir! I-“

“No buts miss evens. You will head to fourth period or I will have to give you a detention and call your parents to let them know you’re skiving.” He replies in his stern monotone voice (not that it’s any different to his normal voice)

“Good luck getting in touch with them” I mutter as I leave I his office.

As I left the office, I ran into my friend Isobel who was just leaving the nurse claiming to be sick. She was always in there trying to get out of PE in some way or another.

“Izzy! Wait up!” I shout and she turned to me and smiled.

“Hey kitty! God, where have you been all day?” she asks with a quizzical look on her face now. “Skiving again? Look, are you ok?”

“I’m fine. Well, I’ll tell you guys about it at lunch. Meet me in the canteen?”

“Yeah, ok I’ll tell Erica and Laura but you’re with Louise all day so you can tell her yourself.”
