Everything was fine. I had a great relationship with my father even though mother was gone. We both understood that there was nothing we could do to save momma. The cancer had her and neither of us was at fault. I had good grades, I wasn't bullied, and I had enough friends to not be lonely. Then that Monday came....I shouldn't have stepped in but I had no choice. I couldn't just let him get bullied like that. I watched for a minute as the two biggest boys in school beat upon this small, thin, messy, black haired boy. His name was Alocious. I'd talked to him but I wasn't considered a friend. I would've liked to have been but he mostly kept to himself.
I stepped in between him and the bullies. My brown eyes must have darkened because the bullies eyes widened a little before going back to normal. "Move out of the way Raven," he said my name like he wanted to dig into me. I straightened up and slammed my fist into his face. "You shouldn't be an asshole. It tends to bite you in the ass" I said before turning and picking up Alocious. I heard the bullies growl and mumble something about getting me later. I ignored it, it was just a stupid threat after all. "You alright?," I asked Alocious and he glared at me. "I was fine," he said angrily and nodded. "Ok...next time I wont save your ass," I said huffily and walked away. I was late to English, I was going to get detention, and I was the new victim for a little. But a thank you was too fucking much for that asshole.
After school finished I gathered my shit and headed home. I was going to drop off my stuff and then head into the woods to draw. I had nothing else to do since dad wouldn't be home for a couple of hours and tonight was the night he had his date. Normally we would get take out and just eat while watching TV but I was excited for him and he needed this. I would just draw for a while then head home and make a sandwich. As I was walking I started to hear footsteps. Heavy ones that indicated someone wanted me to know they were there. There was only two people it could be. Alocious or the bullies. I turned to see three people and I sighed. Guess their threat wasn't an empty one. I couldn't take them all on in the open like this. I knew that. So, I ran for the woods, knowing the trees would provide sufficient cover. I dropped my bag, and sprinted into the bushes that lined the woods. I heard them crash about and I know at least one fell. Already this idea was a good one. Or at least...it would've been if I hadn't been dumb and had watched where I was going.
I tripped and rolled down a hill. The river at the bottom was overflowing from all the rain we had gotten the past few days and the current was too much for me. I was swept into the center and shoved under. I tried to hold my breathe and catch some more once I resurfaced but I got water in my lungs. I could feel myself drowning. Could feel the dark closing in on me. My lungs were struggling, starting to overflow with the murky water. Maybe I would've survived that...if there weren't bare wires in the water and I had managed to get out before I hit them. I didn't though. I went under and when I came up I hit the buzzing wires. A fiery sensation passed through me and then I was gone.
So I thought anyway. I woke up on a cold metal table in a bare white room. The room almost appeared grey because of the single dim light above my head. I sat up slowly, my whole body seemed to buzz. There was an unusual weight on my back. I got off the table and gasped softly as my bare feet hit the ice like floor. My back ached and my head was pounding like a heavy metal band. Great....dying doesn't fix the pain I had when I was alive.....Then again...why am I alive? Am I alive? I walked towards the door and put my hand on the door handle and pulled.
The door opened with almost no resistance. There was a small squeak but otherwise the door opened silently. Outside the metal door was a long, dark hallway with red velvet carpet and red mahogany walls. I traced my finger along the walls middle ledge as I turned right and walked. The hall seemed never ending. There was no rooms, no turns, just straight forward. It was impressive how long the hall was....I had been walking at least ten minutes and the weight on my back was beginning to bother me. Seriously what the fuck was on my back?
