"We know it was you. All the evidence is right here." Silence.
"Why did you do it?" Silence.
"ANSWER ME!" The Detective slammed his fists down hard on the table behind me and managed to keep the unwavering piercing glare on the back of my head. Impressive.
"I'm sorry. I dont know what you're talking about. Sorry to.. disappoint you. Can I go now?" I said as i turned to get a clear view of Detective Benton. The tensions were rising in the interrogation room, and i managed to catch a glimpse of desperation threatening to show on his face.
"I have nothing for you. Again. Am i the only one seeing a reoccurring thing here?" I gestured to the boxy-faced cop standing by the door, with his hands clasped in front, sporting the I-am-the-authority stance. "What exactly have you proven me guilty for anyway?"
"That's classified information Ms Price, for us to know and you to find out." Sliding back down into his chair, Detective Benton put his fingertips together and stared at me for a long, long time.
"I dont know what you think you're going to pull outta me. We've been going at this a long time, Detective." I haven't been able to move from this position since they called me down here, hours ago. These silver cuffs on my wrists have begun to carve permanent markings into my skin.
"Failure to cooperate with authorities is a serious federal offense Ms Price, shall i add that in here as well?" Now he's mocking me. Big, tough detective is all out of options, and has resulted to teasing me.
"Sir, with all due respect, i think we're done here. If you would be so kind as to have the officer escort me back to my humble abode, I've got a very lonesome rat waiting for my return." Game on, Detective.
With a grunt and a wave of his hand, Detective Benton dismissed me from his presence. Officer Long, the ever-present 'Special Defense Officer' stepped forward into the light, gathered the collar of my jumpsuit in his meaty fingers, and all but dragged me out of the room.
