I was nervous. I couldn't sleep last night; I just paced my floor. Tonight I was meeting the man I would marry. My parents had this arranged when we couldn't afford to live in Stafford anymore. I had heard this man was a warrior. I hoped not; war scared me.

I wasn't ready to get married, I'd just turned eighteen last week. Mother said he was 24. Quite my senior.

I sat on my bed for quite some time, until I heard my mother come in.

"Emma, we must get you ready." She bustled to my trunk and pulled out a dress reserved for my wedding night. It was a silky white with ribbons.

"Mother-" I protested, but she held up a firm hand.

"Emmalyn! Enough. You are marrying him and that is final." She lay the dress beside me and I stood up. She began tying my corset, tightly, I could barely breathe.

She slipped the dress over my head and began to put some braids in my wavy hair. This is how the women in his kingdom wore their hair.

After a while, she stood back, and smiled wistfully. "You are ready." She directed me to the gathering area of our little house.

"It will be a small ceremony." She began. "Only us, and him. It will be short, seeing as how he might have to go to war soon."

I swallowed hard. War? Was I ready for this?
