My mouth was dry and my heart was beating so hard I thought it would burst from my chest. I was running for my life. Being the unfit person I am, this has got to be the most tiring thing I've ever done in my fifteen years of living. Everyone knows that running and I don't go together. But this is my life I'm running for. It's the only choice I have.
"Get her!!" shouted manly voices behind me. "Oh Lord, help me," I thought to myself. I reached a T-junction and paniced. Suddenly a young girl's voice in my head said, "Go left." Without hesitating, I ran left and I saw a misty forest ahead. I quickly ran into the forest and hid behind a large tree.
"Where is she?!"
"I saw her running in this direction, boss."
"Look for her, we need that money!!"
I waited for a few minutes until they were gone. It was silent. The only sound I can hear was the singing birds and rustling trees. I turned around and there was no sight of the men. I sat down to catch my breath back.
You must be wondering who I am and why those men were chasing after me. The name's Lily, Lily Heartfilia. My mother is a model. She's no ordinary model, she's famous, comparable to Tyra Banks. My father is a very successful businessman. That probably explains why those fat, ugly, hairy, gorilla-lookalike, were chasing me. I'm the only child in the family and to be honest, I do feel lonely at times as my parents are rarely at home due to work and business trips. Thank God I have my fat bulldog, Fluffy. He has a very bubbly personality and he's probably the friendliest dog anyone will ever know.
"I need water," I talked to myself. I was dehydrated from running. I decided to explore the mysterious forest.
The trees are neatly arranged in parallel rows as I walked through them. I enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds and the faraway waterfall. All these beautiful sounds were then interrupted by a cry.
It sounded like a young girl as it was quite high-pitched. Out of curiousity, I followed the sound of the cry.
I saw a lifeless hut. What is a hut doing in the middle of the woods? I walked towards the door of the hut. The closer I walked, the clearer the cry became.
I stood infront of the wooden door. Many questions raced through my mind. Gradually, I opened the door.
I saw a little girl sitting at the corner of the room crying. She looked so small and fragile. I slowly walked towards her, trying not to scared her.
"Hey there," I whispered. She looked at me with her innocent big blue eyes filled with tears.
"Are you okay?" I asked. She didn't reply me.
"Are you hungry? You can have my chocolate bar if you like, it's Cadbury, you'll like it," I offered as i unzipped my bag. I offered her the bar and she reluctantly took it.
As she ate, I sat beside her and observed her. She wears a torned pink dress on her pale skin full of scars. Her lips looks as if they're camoflaged to her face. Her long black hair curled just beneath her chest. She looks like an image of a lifeless doll.
She finished the bar and smiled "Thank you." Her voice reminded me of my five year old cousin.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Hayley."
"My name's Lily. Nice to meet you. Where are your parents?"
"Daddy and Mommy aren't here anymore. They left me."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Annie (a doll) is always there for me so I'm never lonely, but-"
"You lost Annie. Is that why you're crying?"
She nodded.
I cheered her up and told her that we should look for Annie.
We searched around until the sun began to set.
"We should go home now," I suggested. "My driver can give you a life home. Where do you live?"
"Here," she replied.
"Where? Here? In the forest?"
"Yup."
What a strange girl. Who on earth would live in a creepy forest? I wouldn't have the guts to live in a forest let alone a young girl.
As my driver drove us to my place, Hayley and I clicked. I realised that we have so many in common. We became more comforatble with each other.
As we walked to the entrance of my house, Fluffy welcomed me home but when he saw Hayley, he continuously barked at her. That's strange. Fluffy has never barked at anyone before. Hayley became perturbed and grabbed the bottom corner of my shirt. "Don't worry," I comforted her, "It's the first time he saw you. It's normal for dogs to bark."
I brought her to my dressing room and dressed her up like a doll. We did what girls do at sleepovers. She became like my little sister. Day by day, our relationship grew. I even told her about my secret crush on Dean!
"I'm home~!" came a voice from downstairs. "It's my dad!" I excitedly said. "He's finally home! You have to meet him."
"I don't think I should..."
"Hayley. He'll like you. Don't worry!"
She insisted to stay in the room but I dragged her to the kitchen. The minute Fluffy saw her, he instantly barked at her again so I told him to shut up. He grinned as he walked away.
"So.... Dad!" I said. "I have a new friend."
"Hey sweetie," My dad said as he prepared his cup of brown coffee. "Oh really? What's her name?"
"Her name is - "
"By the way," My dad interrupted. It so him to interrupt in conversations. "Have you heard about the rumour?"
"Rumour? Pfft, they're just rumours, what's the big deal about it? What's the rumour this time?"
"A girl stabbed her parents 13 times when they were asleep and then she commited suicide. I don't know the details but she was probably possessed by a demon or something. Just who on earth would do that?!"
"That's why it's called a rumour, dad," I laughed.
"Anyway, what did you say about your friend?" My dad said as he was still preparing his coffee.
"Oh, her name's Hayley. We're really close now. We're like sisters!"
"That's cool. She should come over for dinner some time. She sounds cool just like your dad." he joked.
"Dad, you've been so busy making your coffee that you didn't realize that Hayley was beside me the whole time.." I sighed. That was really rude of him. What a bad first impression for Hayley.
" Well she's real quiet isn't she. Sorry for being rude, Hayley, I tend to pay extra attention when I'm making my coffee, especially after a long tiring day," he explained.
He finally faced us. "Lily, is this one of your jokes again?"
"What are you talking about?!"
"Where's Hayley?"
I became annoyed. "Are you blind? She's just right next to me. Can't you see?!"
Sometime's I can't believe he's even my dad. Is he crazy?
It's so obvious that Hayley is beside me.
"Lily."
He paused.
"There's no one beside you.."
