Cold. Hidden. Afraid. I hear my heart pounding in my chest. I can see my breath, each breath I take. My little sister right next to me shivering. We've been in this basement for two years already it's my second time going through this, but it feels like the first. No blanket, barely any food or water, and no light. When will this damn war stop? When will Hitler make up his mind and stop doing this too us... So many questions but never answers. Sometimes I wish I was dead. Sometimes I wish I wasn't Jewish. Every little noise and creak scares the hell out of me. *sigh* Then a thought came to my head what if I say I'm German? Will they believe me? My step mom is German after all. Then it hit me my step mom is German! That's it she can give me a lesson every day... She comes once a day to give me and Syvia (My little sister) food so she can probably stay for a little bit and give me lessons on how to speak German. Then there was pounding on the wall there was a secret trap door that my step mother walks through. "Syvia!!!" I whisper panicked. "What?" My sister says half asleep. "THE NAZIS, THEY'RE HERE WAKE UP GET TO THE PLACE!" Me and my sister ran to our secret place. When the war had started my father wanted to keep us safe so he found this underground basement and decided to put carpet all over the floor so if the nazis came in we would pick up the carpet and there would be a wooden little door leading to a tight space as wide as a coffin and in there there was a gallon of water to keep hydrated. My father had make that small compartment and when you closed the doors it looked like it was just a normal floor. Me and my sister ran in put the carpet over and shut the doors just in time we heard the "door" burst open and the soldiers with their heavy boots stormed in. They said "Es gibt hier nichts zu gehen" (There is nothing here let's go.) We decided to spend the day and night in there just to be safe. It was actually warm and cozy in there not like the concrete walls and hard ragged floor it's freezing but here its nice and padded.

                        2 Days Later
We get out and a freezing cold breeze hits us right in our face. The nazis broke the secret trap door. My sister clutches onto me and pulls me down. "Syvia what are you doing?!" I yell. "Shhhh!" Trust me Abra, I may be 8 but they might come again because our lantern was on so they might think people are hiding here." My sister was right. We stayed in the "coffin" until step mother came in we heard her crying "SYVIA ABRA NO MY PRECIOUS LITTLE ANGELS HOW COULD THEY TAKE YOU!" We knocked on the little doors and then step mother ran over to us. "Thank goodness you're alright!" After that my step mother didn't know how to fix the trap door so she decided to teach me and my sister German.

                       1 year later

Me and my sister knew how to speak German fluently but the only problem was that we had brown hair and eyes. "What are we going to do mother?" I asked. "Shave" step mother said "if people ask say you had lice" me and Syvia nodded. We shaved our heads and put hats on.Then mother told me to do something I never thought I could ever do... Walk freely on the streets as Jewish children.

                        War is over
The war is over I'm 18 and Syvia is now 11 we are free I can't believe it that those words just came out of my mouth.
                   We. Are. Free

                         The End
