Chapter One: Piper

PIPER.

Piper was tired. She was so tired but she couldn't sleep. She was too busy thinking about Percy and Annabeth. She wondered if they were okay. If they would go back to being the same old Percy and Annabeth that she knew. She doubted that. She didn't blame them really; they had just been through Tarturaus for gods' sake. Piper wondered what they had been through down there, it clearly wasn't very nice. Piper thought about what Percy had done. How he had fallen into Tarturaus; the deepest, and most scary part of the underworld. Where all the monsters they had ever defeated were down there waiting for them. And considering all the stories Piper had heard back at camp; of Percy always saving the day, defeating the scariest of monsters with Annabeth at his side. That was a lot of monsters. Wow, Piper really never thought of it that way. She suddenly felt sorry for the two of them; especially Annabeth. She finally realised what Annabeth must be feeling; her boyfriend had just gone into a death trap with her so she could stay alive, Annabeth would be dead if he hadn't, they would have never closed the doors. Piper decided that she should go see Annabeth.

Piper walked out her door and down to Annabeth's cabin. Leo, Frank and Hazel were on duty so that her, Jason, Percy and Annabeth could sleep. Piper decided that it was worth waking Annabeth up. She approached her cabin door and knocked twice. She heard sobbing coming from Annabeth's cabin. She opened her door and walked in. Annabeth was lying in her bed asleep, there were tears streaming down her face and she was muttering things like, "Percy stop!" Or "No, Percy please stay alive, don't die!" And then, "BOB HELP HIM, you have to!" Piper didn't quite understand that one but it was enough to make her realise that Annabeth was having a nightmare about Tarturaus- and Percy came very close to death down there.

Piper slowely approached Annabeth's bed and knelt down beside her. "Annabeth," she whispered, "Annabeth, wake up," she said, using her charmspeak. Annabeth jolted up in her bed and yelled, "PERCY," she looked around with a shocked, sad, hurt look on her face. She was breathing fast and loudly. When she saw Piper she started to sob again. A sad, heart wrenching sob that made it hard for Piper not to cry. "Annabeth, it's okay, don't cry, it's just me, Piper," she said.

Annabeth started to calm down and started whimpering quietly.

"Annabeth, you having a nighmare, are you ok?" Asked Piper.

"I-I-I, no," Annabeth broke down into tears again with her head in her hands.

Piper patted her back, "shh, it's ok, wh-what was the nightmare about?" Piper asked, full of concern.

"I-I-in T-t-Tarturaus, P-Percy almost d-died, I-I couldn't see him at th-the time b-but now I s-saw it, in my d-dream. Th-they hurt h-him so b-bad, and I-I couldn't h-help him. He t-tried t-to save m-me, b-but they w-were so c-cruel. Th-they killed h-him, h-he would've d-died for m-me. If it weren't for-" she couldn't finish that sentence because she burst into even mire tears, which Piper didn't think was even possible. Piper didn't really fully understand Annabeth, but she understood enough that Percy almost died trying to save her, and she couldn't help him, and that's what she was dreaming of. Piper stood up and sat down beside Annabeth on her bed and gave her a hug. Annabeth sobbed into her shoulder.

"Th-they cursed h-him over and over," she sniffled.

"It's okay, " Piper said, "You're safe now, both of you."

"Y-you d-don't understand," she sobbed.

"H-he nearly d-died for m-me, I-I thought h-he was dead, b-but s-someone s-saved him."

"Annabeth-" Piper couldn't finish her sentence because there was a knock on the door and Percy popped his head in, grinning slightly.

"Hey, what's-" the smile immediately melted off his face when he noticed Annabeth crying. He rushed over to them and knelt beside Piper and Annabeth. "Annabeth what's wrong?!" He asked, looking at her, his sea-green eyes full of concern.

Annabeth slowely looked up from Piper's shoulder, which was now soaked with tears.

"Percy!" She yelped, "you're alive, you're okay!" She seemed to be half crying tears of sadness and half crying tears of joy. She let herself fall into his arms and hugged him tightly.

"Woah," he said, "Annabeth, what's the matter? Of course I'm alive!" He said, wrapping her in his arms.

"The-the arai, " she sobbed, "I-I saw wh-what they did t-to you."

Percy looked at Piper in confusion and she mouthed: nightmare, to him. He sighed and nodded.

"Annabeth, I'm fine, it's ok-" he said.

"No it's not ok!" She whimpered loudly this time. "They almost killed you! You almos died!" She sobbed.

"Annabeth-" Percy started but Annabeth stopped him by hitting him in the shoulder. Piper was confused now.

"You are such a seaweed brain!" She sobbed, but there was a smile on her face.

"Ok, first of all; ow and second of all; I am not a seaweed brain, thank you very much." He said, with a smile on his face. Piper laughed.

"Yes you are!" Annabeth yelled, " you never ever do that again, you never leave me again!"

Percy laughed, which made Piper smile, they're relationship was so cute it made her want to cry. Ugh, stop it Aphrodite! She thought.

Annabeth wiped the tears away from her face and sat up.

"Em," Piper started, "now that that's all cleared up, what are arai?" She asked reluctantly.

"They're curses," Percy started, "if you kill one, you get a curse," Piper must've had a confused look on her face because then Percy said, "all the monsters you have killed in the past, some of them cursed you before they died, and the arai gave you those curses." Percy explained. Piper thought about how many monsters Percy and Annabeth had probably killed in the past. "Oh," said Piper, She didn't really know what to say. Percy smiled and broke the silence by saying; "well, they're gone now, and they won't be bothering us for a while." He stood up and said, "well I'll leave you guys here now, I'm gonna go see how the others are. Bye!"

"Bye," Annabeth and Piper said in unison.

And he left.
