Emily Fields laid on her fresh linen bed, staring around her undecorated bedroom. It made her a little upset, for some reason, that it wasn't decorated. It could be anyone's, anyone in the world' bedroom, and there was so indication that it was hers.
Her bedroom door started to shake, almost, as someone on the other side was pounding violently.
Her eyes snapped from her lazy vision to wide open and alert. She wondered who it was, and went through suspects in her brain, all while quitely sitting up and getting off her bed.
It could be her mother, but she hadn't done anything wrong. Well, except from being gay. But her Mom wouldn't just storm in here and start yelling homophobic slurs like she had when Emily had come out.
But hey, never say never.
It could be one of her friends, although neither Spencer, Hanna or Aria had that much of a vigorous knock, and she didn't understand why they would be angry.
She decided there was only one way to find out, so she yanked the door open.
She frowned as she saw who it was. Veronica Hastings, head of the Institute or, as she more remembered her, as Spencer's Mom.
"Mrs. Hastings? Is there something wrong?"
Mrs. Hastings looked flushed, but still managed to be as pristine and honourable as ever.
"Emily, get in your gear and get to the weapons room. We have had an alert of a den of vampires feeding off of mundanes and we need one of our best Shadowhunters."
Emily nodded and rushed to her wardrobe, as Mrs. Hastings slammed the door and ran off down the long winding corridor.
She took her all-leather gear out of her plain closet, quickly shoving it on and looking in the mirror.
She guessed she was pretty, but not as pretty as her friends. She was too tall, too lanky, and she didn't look as fair and pretty as what most guys said they wanted.
Obviously she didn't care about guys thoughts on her, but she didn't know what girls liked about girls. She didn't know what she liked about girls.
Emily shook her head hurriedly, remembering she had something to do. She quickly shoved her hair into a bun and looked one last time.
She wasn't pretty. She wasn't even satisfactory. At least that's what the voice inside her head kept telling her, over and over again.
