Six O'clock
Six o'clock in the morning was when I woke up. the sky was still as dark as night and it was still as cold as the day before.my burgundy hoodie bagged around my waist as I changed from sweat pants to black jeans and vans. A morning walk was needed to wake me up from my slumber induced dazed. the streets were quiet but busy. people still asleep as they walked on their way to work, coats hugged their bodies and computer bags hung from the shoulders.
the familiar coffee house came into sight and my stride got bigger knowing there'd be a hot coffee to warm my hands.
I pushed the door and the bell dinged above my head. unfortunately it wasn't Georgia who was working but a guy with tanned skin and dark brown almost raven hair. he looked tired.
"Vanilla lattè please" I smiled at him
He nodded and the coffee machine made all the weird sounds they make. my eyes explored around the shop a few people dotted around.
"Ms Rose, pleasure seeing you here" I heard his voice coming from behind me. Turning to his voice he was sitting there by the window with a coffee cup and a pack of cigarettes in front of him with his phone gently placed in top of his wallet.
"Thomas" was all I said. He took a sip of his coffee.
I turned back to the barista and carefully took the coffee from him and gave him my nicest smile possible.
"Come sit Ms Rose" He pushed the chair from underneath the other side of the table with his foot.
I contemplated the decision and sat down on the chair carefully. my stare stayed down at my coffee, not being able to face his dark eyes.
"Why are you scared of me Ms Rose?" I felt him lean against the table, getting closer to me. My eyes cautiously met his.
"I'm not scared" my voice shook with my hands which I quickly hid under the table.
"Why are you shaking Ms Rose?"
"Ellie"
"What?"
"Call me Ellie"
"alright, Ellie" he put the emphasis on my name. A smile tugged at my mouth as I brought my coffee to my lips.
His smirk turned into a smile that eased my anxiousness that he caused.
"So Ms Ro-I'm sorry-Ellie, how did get into writing?" He sipped on his coffee, which I noted was black.
"Well during school I had a lot of feelings which I didn't know to let go so I just wrote and it's kinda stuck with me seeming as I studied English Literature at Oxford" I smiled
"You're a British girl? I thought I heard a slight accent" He wasn't giving me his usual intense stares or his intimidating looks but his face softened along with his eyes.
"Yes, yes I am"
"What part?"
"Gloucestershire, heard of it?"
"I have a few relatives up there, very pretty" he murmured
He reached into his coat pocket and reached for something. He slowly pulled my hand and opened it. A daisy hair grip was placed into my hand. He then closed my hand again.
"I found it in the office yesterday."
"Thank you" a light smile placed itself on my lips. I noticed I had drunk all my coffee. I slowly got up. Thomas followed my actions.
"What's up?" He queried
"I'm just going outside"
The bell rung as I left. My hands dung in my pocket as I got the packet of cigarettes but I couldn't feel my lighter. I patted around my jeans to see if I put it in my back pocket but nothing. a deep sigh left my mouth as I turned and went back into the coffee shop.
"Hey, Thomas could I borrow your lighter?"
"Uh yeah of course, I'll come with you" He picked up his wallet and phone.
The wind blew my hair across my face. Stunned at my sudden burst of confidence to which I have no idea came from I smiled up at him as he stood there holding the lighter up to the cigarette that was between my lips.
"What?" he chuckled
"Nothing" i said as I savoured the tranquil moment between us.~~~
My legs swung as I sat on the counter top with a tea placed between my palms. A content smile laid on my face at the daisy clip across the room.
