He woke up, but he didn't know where. He felt the cold ground beneath him. It was night time, the cold air nipped at his bare skin, the sounds of the woods around him chimed calmly around him. He groaned and slowly stood up, having no memory of how he got in this situation in the first place. In fact, he doesn't remember anything at all. He doesn't know where he's from, where he was born, his language, or even his name. He looked down at his own body, seeing that he was quite fit, most of his muscles were moderately defined. However, this did not confuse him, what confused him was why he was nude; which somehow felt extremely awkward to him, in the middle of nowhere in the cold. So he started walking, he really could not care less as to where. He shivered, his skin crawled from the cold, and yet he walked on. He felt like he knew this place, it had some familiarity to him, but still he could not wrap his head around it. It felt like hours, but finally he reached something new, a road. He started following it, thinking that it was a better alternative than walking aimlessly through miles and miles of trees. He walked slowly, his eyes wandering around his surroundings. He could see a light coming from down the road on the left side of the yellow line. It was a car, and it was slowing down as it approached him. He heard a feminine voice calling from it, which made him stop. He looked over at the woman who talked to him.
"What the fuck are you doing out here?" She said, agitated and confused.
"W-what?" He replied, slightly struggling to get the word out.
"I said, what the fuck are you doing out here? And why in God's name are you naked?"
"I... I don't know." He said. He finally got to hear his voice, which sounded somewhat deep, yet soft and kind.
"Do you need to go to a hospital or something?" She asked, now seeming less agitated and more curious.
"No, no, but..."
"But what? I can bring you to the nearest station, maybe the cops will try figuring out how the hell you ended up here." She said.
"Umm... Yeah... I think that might help." He said, smiling softly at her.
"Hop in the back, just... Don't touch anything."
He nodded and walked up to her car, opening the back door and carefully sliding into the seat before closing the door.
"Buckle up, don't want you to get more hurt." She said as she looked in the rear view mirror to see him. He did as she asked and she drove off.
He watched the world fly past him through the window. It was fascinating, everything had a childhood familiarity to him, but he felt like he never saw the outside world ever. The street lamps illuminated the road about every ten feet, he couldn't help but watch them as the flew by.
"So, mister, uhh... What's your name again?" She said, finally breaking the silence in the car.
"Huh?" He said as he looked over at the woman driving the car. "Oh, I don't know."
"Pfft, of course." She said, laughing, genuinely thinking it's a joke before glimpsing his face in the rear view and seeing his perplexed expression. "Oh... Oh shit, you're serious?"He nodded slowly to her reply.
The car fell silent again. He went back to watching the lights. Eventually, the trees finally gave way to what appeared to be a small town. There are a few small, brick buildings passed in the blink of an eye as the car travels further and further before finally coming to a stop in front of a police station. She parked the car in front of the building. It appeared to be like many of the others that were passed along the way; old, a little small, and of course made out of red bricks. Unlike the others, there was a large badge like symbol hanging over the first floor.
"Okay, we're here." She says calmly as she unbuckles and climbs out of the car, an action which he follows.
They walk into the front office, and he can tell he is immediately being watched. The woman walks up to a man in uniform who stands behind a pane of glass.
"Hello," She says with a soft smile. "I found this man wandering down the road. He said he had no idea what he was doing out there or what his name was."
The officer looks at him, then back at the woman. "Did you take him to a hospital first?"
"No, I asked him if he needed to and he said no, so I asked him if he would like to go to the cops to clear up some things and he said yes." She said, which caused the officer to look puzzled at her, then even more puzzled at him.
"Well... We can see what we can do, but I doubt that'll be much." The officer said, trying his hardest to figure out what to do in this situation.
"Thank you. Can I leave him here for the night? Is that a possibility?" She asked as she looked from the officer to the naked man who now sits on a wooden bench.
"Uh, I think so. We may need to find him some spare clothes, but that hopefully won't be a problem." The officer says, attempting to bring comforting thoughts to the woman. "Did he do anything weird before you brought him here?"
"You mean other than walking down the road, ass naked? No, in fact I was surprised by how quiet he was." She said somewhat curiously.
"Okay, thank you for the information. Now, if you want, you can leave at any moment and we will have someone who will be better suited to handle him take him in and talk to him." He said, looking at the woman.
"Oh thank you. And I am sorry for the inconvenience."
"Oh don't worry, this isn't the first time we've had a strange case walk through the door. Hey John," The officer says, shouting at a man who is in the other room with him. "Do we have any spare clothes or blankets?"
"Yeah, just a few shock blankets. Why?" John says back.
"We're gonna need them." He says as he looks back at the woman. "Enjoy the rest of your night, and keep an eye on the road."
"Thank you." She smiles and walks to the door, but before exiting, she looks at the man. "You know, it was honestly nice meeting you."
"Thanks. I'm glad you didn't leave me out there." He responded, smiling softly at the woman.
"Don't mention it." She smiles back at him and leaves the building.
A few moments later, another man walks through the door that leads to another section of the building and hands him a big, thick, grey blanket, which he takes. Smiling, he wraps it around himself, feeling the warmth finally cling to his skin. He now proceeds to sit and wait in silence as the man behind the glass leaves the room. He looks around at the walls, which are bare and painted a bone white. After a few minutes of staring at the walls, another officer walks into the room, a woman.
"So, I'm guessing you're the one who was naked on the street." She says with a soft chuckle and a bit of sarcasm.
"Yes, I am." He says as he stands and faces her.
"Follow me, right this way." She commands as she walks into another office, and he is close behind her.
