~~Yesterday~~

I wake up this morning very excited. Why? Because today I turn 18!

"Ariana, get down here quick!!" My mum yelled from downstairs.

"One sec. Mum" I shouted as I put my naturally curly hair into a messy bun and slipped into some pink shorts with a white flowy tank tucked in.

As I headed downstairs I noticed the lights were off.

"That's odd" I whispered mostly to myself as I walked towards the light switch.

As the lights of my fairly big living room flickered on I heard a chorus of people yell "SURPRISE!!!"

My heart felt as if it leaped out of my chest. I'm not a fan of surprises you know. After I calmed down a bit I noticed my friends and family with party hats on and whistles. I saw my friend Shelby across the room looking at me with a large grin. She knows I hate surprises this was probably all her idea. I'll get her back later.

After a lot of "happy birthday"s and "congratulations" everyone settled down and began eating the buffet I failed to see earlier.

I made my way over to my mum to thank her for this "great" party, but got stopped by my friend Shelby.

"Hey" she said with a genuine smile on her face. Shelby was one of my best friends and I did everything with her. I love her to death but sometimes she is a little too.... Well crazy.

We talked about school and stuff until I asked how her and David, her long time boyfriend, was. A single tear rolled down her cheek.

"Oh my gosh Shelby, what's wrong?" I asked sincerely concerned

She told me that she caught David cheating on her with some slut he met at a bar. I felt so bad, just days ago we were chatting and she said that she thought she was in love with him. I couldn't believe someone would do something so horrible to someone so kind and cheerful towards everyone, literally, she never has a bad thing to say about anyone.

"I don't want to ruin your party with my sob story." She said forcing a smile.

"We will continue this later" I told her as I walked towards my mum.

"Thanks so much, mum. This party is great"I said smiling at my gorgeous mother. She is the best mum a girl could ask for. She always knows what to say and I don't know what I would do without her!

"Oh, it gets better" she says gesturing to the table stacked high with gifts. I just squealed and ran up them.

"When do I get to open these bad boys?" I thought to myself as I examined the boxes. I stayed there for a while until I heard the slight growl of my stomach, signaling that I need FOOOOOD!!

I walked towards the buffet and stacked my plate with just about everything. You see I was one of those people that ate like a pig but never gained a pound.

Soon after finishing my meal my mum announced that we were just about to begin the cake and ice cream. I know it's silly but my family still sings happy birthday as they set down the cake and light the candles. I don't mind, it's sweet actually.
