13. Questions

"Arisu,"
I couldn't stop thinking about her. I had been worried sick ever since her disappearance. That's when I first awakened as a shiki. Seeing her again...and as a shiki.....makes me think of her more. What happened to her? Why is she with Tatsumi? Why did she act as if she didn't know me? So many questions and seeing her again made more. I had asked around for her but it seemed like none of the shiki had come in contact with her. The villagers had set up a search party for her as well. Her grandparents were in pain and grief. I became restless, I began imagining the worse case scenario.
"Megumi?" I was surprised to see the pink haired female. "I haven't seen you around for a while,"
She glared at me before flipping her long pink locks and walked away.
"Arisu came by," I told her.
Megumi tensed.
"I never knew she became one of us," I said.
Feelings of fear and terror washed over her as she recalled images of blood and fangs.
"She's nothing like us," she murmured before walking away.
I rushed after her, eager to know what she meant.
"What do you mean by that?"
Ignoring me, she quickened her pace.
"Megumi,"
"Look," she faced me. Clearly she was irritated. "If you want to know what happened to her so badly, why don't you ask her yourself."
"That's the thing. I don't think I can. When she saw me, it was like she didn't even know who I am,"
Megumi frowned. "Well, that's your problem, not mine. Besides, she's the last person I'd ever want to talk about."
Talking to Megumi only created more confusion and questions in my mind. What exactly happened to her? Why doesn't she seem to know me?
I kept thinking about it. Ever since her disappearance, I couldn't stop thinking about her. It gave me some relief seeing her....but there were just too many questions in my mind. I felt frustrated...becoming a shiki and all, Arisu, Natsumi...my family. Everything. At times, it feels unbearable for me. Sitting around just thinking about it is unbearable.
