The Other Sister

Chapter 3

"So, how was the party?" Annalise asked her sister when she walked in. Annalise could clearly hear the annoyed and slightly sarcastic tone to her voice.

"I had a lot a fun, not that you really care." Annaline answered. Annalise gasped, not that she was actually shocked by that answer. Her sister had always had comebacks like that.

"So, sleep with playboy yet?" She asked. "I mean, that's all he wants after all."

"Wow, who knew my sister could reach another level of..." Annaline trailed off as their parents came downstairs. Annalise knew what her sister was going to say anyway.

"You feeling okay?" Their father asked Annaline. Annalise didn't understand why until she saw her hands shaking slightly.

"I'm fine. I forgot my meds here yesterday, so I just came home a little early to take them. Jase is picking me up before they head off to the races tonight." She said, heading to the kitchen where her meds were kept. Annalise was interested. Annaline never enjoyed going to the races before.

"I thought you didn't like going to the races?" Their mom asked. "If you said that just to get away from your sister, you're going to be in a lot of trouble."

"I didn't like going because precious little Annalise's friends don't like me. Emily, Jase, and the rest of our friends are going. I have people there that actually like admitting I exist." She answered. Annalise could see that her sister was on edge now.

"You're not going with that attitude of yours, young lady." Their mom told her. "Her friends enjoy having you around because you're one of their friends as well."

"No, I'm not!" Annaline exclaimed. "They absolutely hate me! It's freaking obvious that they don't want me there!"

"Tone it down, drama queen." Annalise said, egging her sister on. It wasn't often that she got to see Annaline lose her cool.

Annaline waited to see if their parents would say anything to her before shaking her head.

"I don't see the point in even trying to explain anything to you two anymore. It's not like you guys care what I want or how I feel." Annaline said, taking the pills and walking out of the kitchen.

"Young lady, come back down here and apologize! Until you do that you're going to be grounded! You are not allowed to go to those races tonight, no matter what!" Their father yelled after her as she unhurriedly walked to her room. She didn't bother to turn back.

"I don't understand what is going on with her." Their mother said, shaking her head. "She's been acting out recently."

"She's just going through her rebellious phase. It'll wear off sooner or later." Their father tried to reassure his wife.

Annalise knew better, however.

"I hate them so much sometimes." Annaline whispered to herself as her tears fell.

She didn't know what came over her. She knew that her parents weren't going to listen to her. After she got better, it was like they forgot that she was her own person with her own life and feelings. They always treated her like she was just another part of her sister that for some reason wasn't attached and therefore had no brain to think with.

Shaking her head she got out her laptop and started writing. She often wrote in a virtual diary whenever she felt like this. It helped her stop crying.

As she was finishing up she heard a knock on her door. She knew that it was probably her parents coming to take away her things as they had grounded her. She didn't bother to answer it though.
