I walked into the red brick building and opened the doors of the library, which I volunteered to work at for community service. When I opened the first set of doors, I stopped for a second to look at the table of books that the library puts up for people to buy. Seeing that one of the books from a series I liked was on it, I grabbed it so I could have something to read Monday in class. I finally pulled open the second set of glass doors which had posters advertising library events like craft circle and STEM club.

I called out, grabbing the attention of my gray haired friend from behind the librarian's desk."Hi Mckenzie, haven't seen you for a while. I hope your family's not keeping you too busy."

"Aura!" she exclaimed, before rushing over to hug me. "It's so great to see you, you came earlier than expected, your shift isn't until another 30 minutes."

"Well, I came early just to see you."

"My sister is coming to visit tonight, and is leaving in the morning. I really hate to ask this of you, but will you cover for me? I promise that I'll repay you, this is the first time I've seen her in years."

I laughed, "Of course I'll do it. That's why I came here, to help out. I don't mind adding a few extra minutes to the schedule when I was planning to sit around and read anyway. Plus, it's not like it's super busy here." I gestured around to the surrounding empty tables and the mostly empty library except for about three or four people.

She was clearly having second thoughts, "But, Aura, what will you do? You'll get bored being here for so long."

I waved my hand. "No problem, it's the beginning of December. I'll put up the Christmas decorations, and if I get finished with that early, I'll read. We are in a library after all."

She huffed. "Fine, but don't think I won't make you repay the favor." She picked up her coat and shot me a smile, mouthed the words thank you, and disappeared out the doors.

I walked over to the desk and hung my coat, putting it over the back of the chair. Normally, the box of decorations are all in the back room, but since we always pull them out a couple days before the next month starts, they were already waiting in a tote under the desk. I dragged it out and started putting the decorations up.

I had gotten ¾ of the way through the tote and was almost finished when two boys my age that I'd never seen before found the books off the shelf they were looking for. I had turned around to go get another decoration and bumped right into the dark haired one, causing him to drop his books.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I should've looked where I was going." I said as I reached down to pick up their books. I grabbed three of them and the strawberry blonde haired one grabbed the last one.

"It's no problem, just a couple of dropped books." He gave me a charming smile and made a show of teasingly dusting them off to show that there was no harm done.

I handed the other three books to him, all about fighting styles and formations, and my fingers brushed his when he took them. The touch transfered a shock between us, which I assumed was because of the static electricity created from the carpet. He jerked his hand away and grabbed the other boys wrist.

"Excuse me, but we really should get studying." The dark haired one commented, but it was clear they wanted to talk alone for a very different reason.

I nodded and walked away, but heard the next thing the strawberry blond haired boy said to the other. It was a simple sentence, but it chilled me to the bone.

"She's the next one."
