Players..put yo pinkie rings up to the...moon!
The sound of Sarah's alarm went off as she groaned from under the covers. Last night was rough, it had been spent catching up on late work until 3 A.M. After just coming in from the Bahamas, you'd think at least one of her teachers would give her an extension, but none seemed to care. Sarah sat up and contemplated if she should even go today. She sighed as she pulled the covers off of her legs and got out of bed. Sarah grabbed her shower essentials and headed to her bathroom to shower.
After her shower, she went to blow dry her hair. When Sarah finished drying her hair, she found clothes to wear. She slipped on a beige sweater and tucked it into her maroon skirt. Sarah put on pantyhose underneath her skirt. She shifted through her shoes until she found her black bootie wedges. Sarah applied her makeup and headed downstairs. Under other circumstances, Sarah would have been teeming with excitement, but sleep deprivation was her new friend today.
Her mother and father were already downstairs eating. "Morning Butterfly." Her father said smiling, her mother barely looking up from her plate. "Morning daddy, if you don't mind, I'm gonna get breakfast with Brianna." Sarah said as her father nodded. Sarah kissed her father's cheek and gave her mother a small hug. Sarah hopped in her car and drove to meet Brianna, her best friend. When Sarah got to the diner, Brianna waved her in. "Hey bestie!" Sarah said siding in front of Brianna. "Heeey." Brianna said as they ordered. "So, did you finish your homework?" Brianna asked, taking a sip of orange juice. "Fortunately, finished up around 2 this morning." Sarah said, Brianna's eyes getting wide. "Okay, gossip time. Have you seen Jason's Instagram post?" Brianna asked talking about Jason, Sarah's ex-boyfriend. "Yeah, and Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. It'll pass over, he's just doing it because I won't get back with him." Sarah said. He decided to break up with her, yet he still pawned over her every chance he got. It's like he didn't want to be with her anymore but he also didn't want anyone else to be with her. Honestly, Sarah was a little confused, they had been together since freshman year, how can you just give that up and why wasn't she eager to go back to him? "Ready?" Brianna asked as Sarah nodded. "See you in the parking lot!" Sarah called, both of them getting into seperate cars. When Sarah turned on her car she immediately plugged her phone up to the aux. Side to Side by Ariana Grande started playing as she drove off to the school. Once Sarah made it to the school, her and Brianna went to go chat with their group. And sadly, Jason was included. Lucky enough for her, his new boo wasn't.
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●Keenan had been up since 6 A.M. He didn't know if it was because of the first day "excitement" you feel, or because he hardly had any sleep his alarm seemed like it went off early. Nonetheless, Keenan got up to get dressed for school. "Keenan!" Angela, Keenan's mother, yelled. "Yeah?!" Keenan yelled back. "You up?" She asked. "Yes ma'am." Keenan said grabbing towel for the shower. "I bet not come up there and you still be in the bed!" She said as Keenan laughed, shaking his head slightly. "I'm up momma, I'm about to get in the shower!" Keenan said as he went to the bathroom. After showering and drying his hair, Keenan found clothes to put on. He had a black shirt, blue jeans, Timbs, and his jewelry. He put some moisturizer in his hair and went downstairs. "Ooouu, grits." Keenan said putting a balled hand up to his mouth. "Shut up boy, and grab a plate." His mom said as he pulled two plates out. "You ready?" She asked him. "I'm hoping, you?" Keenan said as they sat down at the table. "I'm hoping." She replied. After eating, they put their plates in the sink and grabbed their keys. "Whoever comes home first does the dishes, okay?" She said as he nodded. Keenan gave his mom a kiss on the cheek before they went their seperate ways. It took Keenan a minute to get his car started, it was a gift from his Uncle Man Man...even though Man Man was a cheapskate, Keenan was grateful he at least had a car. But the amount of money needed to fix the car every two minutes was outrageous. "Come on, not on the first day!" Keenan said jiggling the keys some more, his car finally starting up. "I'm bout ready to take yo ass across the scale." He joked pulling out of his driveway. Keenan got to the school and sat in his car until the bell rung. Once he got inside, he was dumbfounded. Everywhere he turned, there was nothing but white skin. He knew he wasn't the only person of color at this school, he couldn't be. Keenan looked at his school documentation paper to find his locker. 45B. Keenan sees as list of B's on the lockers and followed them to see what numbers they had. 34, 35, 36, 37, and so on until he found 45, or which he assumed was 45. A guy was blocking the locker. Keenan didn't care if the guy was in the way or not, he opened the locker, moving the guy out of the way. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" The guy asked. "Opening my locker." Keenan said plainly, putting some stuff in his locker. "Haven't seen you at this locker before." He said as Keenan sighed. "That's probably because I just got here." Keenan said shutting his locker and walking away. That guy seemed crazier than a sack of cats, so he walked off. There was no need to pull his mom out of work because he got in trouble, and on the first day. This wasn't an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Once the bell rang, Sarah and Brianna walked to their first class. "Can't believe Derrick is throwing another party after he had one like 2 days ago!" Sarah said shocked. Sure she hadn't been to it, or any party for that matter, but 2 days apart seemed a little short. "You know how Derrick is, he's always talking about how his parties are gonna live up to that house party movie. What's the name?" Brianna asked. "I think it is house party." Sarah said as they went to their seats. "Do you think we're corrupting Derrick?" Brianna asked. "How?" Sarah said pulling out a fluffy pen and notebook. "I mean, generally you get a black person in your life and you start listening to rap and telling people to cash you ousside. Now, when is the last time you've listened to any of the music Derrick listens to since he got here?" Brianna asked. "Like, 2 years ago, when we first became friends." Sarah said. "And when we're in the car, we don't even ask if he wants the aux." Brianna stated as Sarah nodded. All she could do was nod, once Brianna got started she wouldn't stop until all the facts had been laid out. "Maybe that's why he throws so many parties, there are more black people in the other schools. It's like the white population decided to put all of their kids in here like the old days. Well, this ain't the old days, we need to embrace our fellow people. Once we're all dead, we are all the same...bones-" Brianna said, slightly out of breath. "I mean, him and Trevor are the only black kids at our school." Brianna continued. Just then, the door of the classroom opened and in walks Keenan. Keenan saw that all eyes were on him and he realized why, he was the only black kid in the class. There was only one seat left open and that was by a blonde, who looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Is this someone seat?" He asked her and she shook her head no. Sarah gave him a small smile as he sat down by her, hopefully he had not heard her conversation with Brianna. "Okay class, this is our new student, Mr. Jones. I hope you make him feel welcomed." The teacher said, then going back to the syllabus. Keenan hoped it just wasn't with pitch forks and torches. Sarah looked to Brianna who mouthed something along the line of "He's cute." Indeed he was cute, he kinda had a boyish baby face to Sarah. Keenan kept looking at the pencil that laid out in front him. Sure he probably should be paying attention and taking notes, but all he could focus on was the fact that he was the only black kid in this class.
Lunch
When lunch arrived, Sarah and Brianna met up with their group. "You think Jason is gonna ask Taylor to sit with us?" Brianna asked. "Seeing as she wasn't there this morning, no. He only does it when I'm not around, he wants me back for some odd reason. He's not gonna have her all over him when I'm around, but when I'm by myself he will go all out." Sarah said. Sarah was leaning over the railing looking over the cafeteria, trying to see if Derrick had come early. Keenan came into the cafeteria with a new friend, Derrick, who was looking for his group of friends. "Lord, this girl doesn't care if her whole ass is showing to the world." Derrick said going to Sarah and whispering in her ear. Sarah's face flushed, she knew the skirt came a little high but Brianna said she was just fine. "Well, no more skirts for me." Sarah said, adjusting the skirt a little lower as Brianna shrugged. "Anyway, guys, meet Keenan. Keenan meet Sarah and Brianna, the coolest girls you'll meet in this town." Derrick said as Brianna went to shake Keenan's hand. "We have Literature together first period." Brianna said as Keenan nodded. "You just transfer or you new to town?" Sarah asked as they walked down to the cafeteria and sat down at their usual table. She brushed off the fact that he missed her question because of Brianna being in his face. "Am I taking anyone's seat?" Keenan asked leaning on the table. 'No one important." Sarah said giving a small smile. Keenan smiled back as they set their stuff down and went in line. "So do we have to pay?" Keenan asked as Brianna laughed, more than she should have. Sarah gave Brianna a look before addressing Keenan's question."No, that's why attending here cost so much. It's already paid for in your tuition, like college, only more drama." Sarah said turning to face him in line. "Seems like one of them LMN movies." Keenan said as Derrick laughed. "Ha ha, very funny." Sarah said as they grabbed their trays and went back to their table. "So Keenan, where did you come from?" Brianna asked sitting beside him instead of Sarah. "Rochdale, my mom got a good job offer up here." Keenan said as Brianna seemed to be getting more interested in him. "Oou, I heard of Rochdale. The basketball team won state in their division 6 times in a row." Brianna said. Sarah looked at Brianna trying to figure out what was up. She had said she had a major crush on Derrick and that they were sort of talking, why is she all over Keenan? Sarah cleared her throat and that seemed to snap Brianna out of her daze. "We should get going, Brianna and I have library studies. It was nice to meet you Keegan." Sarah said getting up and throwing her trash away. "It's Keenan." Keenan said as Derrick shook his head. "Welcome to Wellesden Prep." Derrick laughed, Keenan joining in. "I have a feeling imma like it here." Keenan said. "Trust me, you'll love it." Derrick said as they continued to eat lunch.
