I am not one acquainted with loneliness. Like everyone else I have gone through troubles in my life, however I have felt such love that I never knew existed.

Darkness surrounds me. I am in limbo. I have made choices in my life that have led me to this place, to this empty void. I must now face the consequences.

I am in so much mental and physical pain. I shiver against the stone cold floor trying to catch as much sleep as possible but I fail. Sleep has left me alone with my conscious thoughts, a mistake.

I can hear the sound of the guard's boots, clomping against the stone floor from the end of the corridor, sending a shiver down my spine. I knew this day was coming, but it was too soon, I would never be ready.

The footsteps come to a halt and for a moment there is a deafening silence. But of course it doesn't last long. He searches through his pockets and takes out his keys, looking through them one by one as they rattle. One is finally chosen and pushed through the keyhole, opening the steel door.

Even through my closed eyes I can see the light emerging into the cell and the guard walks in, 'It's time.'

I struggle to sit up off the floor and dust away the hay from beneath my head. I have been starved and beaten every day for weeks? months? years? I no longer have a sense of time. I ache all over and know I would not be able to physically live for much longer.

I look around my cell one last time. The small stone room with no windows and months old straw in one corner and growing piles of faeces in the other three. It has been my home for so long. I whisper goodbye to the 5 rodents taking homage in my cell, my only friends since I arrived. I would exchange pieces of food for whatever gift they would bring to me. Usually, a piece of a chain or something of the sort. It was my only connection to the outside world.

The guard comes over and ties my wrists together and finally ties material around my eyes, leaving me blind.

'I- I can't get up"

He grunts and grabs a fistful of my hair dragging me out the door. I scream in agony leading him to grab a handkerchief from his pocket and shoving it into my mouth, "Shut the fuck up."

The tears stream down my face as the guard pulls me down hundreds of stairs and around corners. I then feel pebbles under me and the smell of fresh air taking over my senses. I can hear dozens more guards waiting for me, their entertainment for today. He suddenly stops.

"Stand up"

I lift one foot up and try to put all my weight on it. I slip back down onto my side letting out a yelp as the guard whips my arm.

"I fucking told you to stand up you useless piece of shit"

I try again, biting my lip, breathing heavy. I push my body up barely steadying myself when I taste blood in my mouth. He directs me to the right and leads me over to piles of straw, a smell I've grown quite acquainted with. He ties my wrists around a wooden stake.

The blindfold is removed from around my eyes and the guards start to shout unholy names at my direction and throw fruit at my face. I lift my head towards heaven, praying for my soul, pleading to God.

I smell smoke and my heart pumps out of my body. I am beyond terrified.

I take one more look at my surroundings before I die. This is it.
