Elizabeth's Point of View

When Mark walked out of the office, I was sitting on the bench. He was walking behind his father, which gave him the perfect opportunity to say something to me really quickly. He walked up to me with THE look in his eyes, and whispered something in my ear.

"I will get you back, Elizabeth, even if it involves me doing something to Kelli," he threatened.

I was shocked that he had threatened my cousin. Then he backed out of my face, and he turned to follow his father. I laid my head back on the wall behind me. My mom and dad walked out of the principal's office, and my mother walked towards me.

"How are you, honey?" she asked me.

"I'm fine mom. I feel good about this," I said

"That's good honey," she responded.

Time skip to home*

We walked on the front porch, to see that there was pizza on the doorstep. I looked at my father, who winked at me. We unlocked the front door, then went inside to enjoy our dinner. After dinner, I went upstairs to shower.

Timeskip to after shower*

I walked into my bedroom, my hair still wrapped in my towel. I shut the door, and walked to my desk and sat down. I pulled out my brush, and started brushing my hair. Through my peripheral vision, I saw a set of eyes staring at me through my closet door. I jumped up, and turned around to face into my closet. Mark walked out.

"How could you do this to me, Beth?" he asked

"As if I had a choice, Mark. You hit me for the last time. I will not stand for it anymore. Now get out!"

He pulled a gun out, and aimed it at me, and whispered, "You either come with me, or I will kill Kelli."

I saw no choice. I couldn't let him kill my cousin. I had to make a decision, and fast.

"Fine, Mark, I will come with you. Just don't do anything to Kelli, please,"

"Good, now out the window," he said. I climbed out the window, and hopped into his car, which just so happened to be parked right under my window. I looked around, to see if my parents were around. The one time I was hoping they would be, they weren't. I would have screamed, but I had to remember that Mark had a gun. He hopped into the driver's seat, and started the car. He pulled out of my driveway, and started down the road. I looked back and I saw the house I thought I would never see again.

We were driving for about an hour, and I finally fell asleep from silently crying too much. Then it had been about 9 P.M.. I woke up, and it was shortly after dawn. Mark wasn't in the car. I couldn't see where we were. I pulled out my phone, looking around for Mark once again. I guess he hadn't thought to check for me having it. I called 911.

"9-1-1 operator, please state your emergency."

"Hello? My ex-boyfriend kidnapped me. I don't know where I am. I fell asleep in his car. I can't see him. I think we ran out of gas. I don't know where we are. Can you send someone to come and get me? Please?"

"Ma'am, I just pinpointed where you are. You are in Princeton, Kansas." How in the world did I get from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Princeton, Kansas. I had never even heard of Princeton, Kansas before. I don't know how long it will take me to get back home.

"Ma'am, what is your name?"

"Elizabeth Jones,"

"Ma'am, we have state police on their way. Please just try to stay where you are."

All of a sudden, I heard Mark coming. I placed the phone in my lap, and left it on. I said aloud, "He's coming. I'm going to leave the call on,". Then I placed the phone next to my thigh, so Mark wouldn't see it when he got in the car.

"Hey, baby," he said.

"Hello, Mark," I said.

"Don't have that tone of voice. You filed the protection order against me. Not the other way around. I should have taught you a lesson in that courtroom.

"Mark, don't say that, please,"

"Then stop acting stupid. You said you love me. Did you lie?"

"No, Mark, I didn't lie. I do love you,"

"Then stop acting stupid, Elizabeth,"

"Okay, Mark, just stop yelling at me!"

Then he hit me. Hard. I could feel myself bleeding. I know the operator on the phone heard it. Then a highway patrolman's sirens screamed as he pulled up behind us. "Oh, thank God!" I thought. Mark pulled over, surprised at the fact that he had a police officer behind him. The officer got out of his car, and walked up to the driver side window, then he tapped the glass. Mark rolled his eyes and rolled down the window.

"Is there something I can help you with, Officer?" he asked with an innocent tone and a smile to match.

"License and registration, please," he requested. Mark handed him his driver's license, and he reached over and grabbed the registration out of the glove box.

"Mark Stenwyck?" he asked

"Yes, sir, that's me."

"Mark, you're under arrest for kidnapping and domestic violence," he said. All of a sudden, a shot rang through the air, and the officer fell to the ground, dead. I screamed, and he pointed the gun at me. "Shut up! Just shut up, Elizabeth!" he screamed. I went quiet. He started the car again, then began driving. I didn't know if the operator was still listening, but I didn't want to risk finding out. All of a sudden, there was 20 police cars in front of us. Mark was about to do a U-turn, but was cut off when he saw that there was a line of them behind us, at least 15 covering the two lanes.

"What the hell is this?!" he exclaimed

I knew he couldn't, or, wouldn't hurt me anymore, so I made a snide comment, "I don't know, Mark, what does it look like?"

He looked at me, panicked. Then, he jumped out of the car and over the sidebar on the road, and started running. Then all of the officers opened fire, and within seconds I watched him drop.

That's when I woke up.

"Elizabeth, honey!" I heard my mom yell.

"Coming mom!" I responded, climbing out of bed. My feet hit the floor, and i couldn't remember what day it was. I walked down to the kitchen, and I saw Mark sitting at the kitchen table. He got up, and looked at me.

"Good morning, Beautiful," he said.

And that's where it all started.
