Hanging on tight to a rope so thin,
Forced to suffer despite no sin,
Simply told, ‘Hold up your chin’,
And hope for brighter days to bless your pale skin.
Weeks spent confined, caged, not free,
Exploring your life is the way it should be,
A bird in summer, gliding over the sea,
And amongst all this, you place faith in me.
To keep on keepin’ on,
When comes a day you might be gone,
Alone I’ll stand, hopefully strong,
Writing a story or playing a song.
I can look to you in times so bleak,
When my mind feels fragmented, troubled and weak,
You comfort my woes when help I seek,
To you I owe more than words can speak.
So here’s to you, I hope you stay,
I’ll still be here, day after day,
As you were for me, showing the way,
On loves word I keep, to stay this path; not led astray.
