"Layla...Layla!" Layla opened her eyes and saw the sight of her little brother, Abel.
"What do you want, Abel?" She says.
"Something crashed on the yard!"
"Oh really?"
"Yes!" Abel went over to the window and opened it. It was still dark outside but there was something large in the yard.
Layla got out of her bed and saw the yard. "What is that?" She asked.
"I don't know." Abel said.
"Let's go check it out" Layla says as she left the room with Abel.
They got to the yard when Abel said, "Layla, I'm scared."
"Well, you shouldn't have come wi-" Layla was interrupted by the sound of the object shifting. They went in to take a closer look. Layla recognized this object. "This is a plane!" She said out loud. They looked around on the inside of the plane and found out that it was made in the year 1959. "1959? That was 17 years ago."
"How do you know?" Abel asked.
"Because, dummy, I was born in 1959. I'm 17." Layla told her brother. "But that's strange, why is there a plane in our yard?" They walked around the plane and found a trail. "There! Must be from the pilot. Let's follow it."
"Do we have to?" Abel asked.
"Do you want to solve this mystery?" Layla asked.
"Not really." Abel said under his breath.
"What was that!?"
"Nothing!"
They followed the trail that lead to a lake. There, they found a man lying on the ground. They quickly ran over to the man. "Go get mom and dad!" Layla said. Abel obeyed and quickly went back to the house. Layla put her hand on the man's neck and found a pulse. He was alive. She got a closer look at the man. He had long dark brown hair, a scar across his face and was wearing a leather jacket, black pants and boots.
By then, Layla's parents arrived. "Is that him?" Her father said.
"Yes dad." Said Layla.
Her mother gasped, as if she knew him. "Honey, look who it is!" She said.
"I know." Said the father. "You kids should head back to sleep and get your rest. Your mother and I will handle this."
"But da-"
"Now!" Layla's father yelled.
Layla nodded and took Abel home and went to bed. The next morning they went to their school in their town, but Layla couldn't focus because she had other things in her mind.
"Layla!" Said her best friend Ashley.
"Huh? What?"
"I've been trying to talk to you for the last 10 minutes! Is something on your mind?" Ashley said.
"No, it's nothing, what's up?" Layla said.
"Well, you know that cu-" the rest of what she said sounded like trombones trying to talk.
Layla pretended to actually hear what Ashley was saying, and when she was done, Layla said "Ya, totally."
"So I should do it?" Ashley said.
"Ya you should." Layla said without actually knowing what is going on.
"Thanks Layla, I knew I could count on you!" Then Ashley left.
Layla was left there wondering what just happened. Then she looked at the time and saw that lunch was almost over. "I should get going." The rest of the day was a hazy blur to Layla.
School ended and Layla went to the elementary to pick up Abel. He went over to her and said "Hey Layla." They then started to walk home. Along the way, Abel said "Layla, do you know what that was last night?"
"I have no idea Abel." Layla said. "Mom and dad said to not worry about it."
"But I couldn't focus today because of that." Abel said.
"Well, I don't know, Abel. Maybe you'll have to ask mom when we get home." Layla says.
They arrived home and opened the front door. "Were home!" But no one answered. They went into the kitchen and saw two plates on the table.
The two plates had notes on them that said "Had to do something in the city. Here's dinner. Be back around 9:00."
"Great! Now we have no answers!" Layla said. She checked the food and saw that it was macaroni and cheese on one plate and rice and beans on the other. She put the mac n' cheese in the microwave and heats it up. "Alright Abel, time to eat."
"Eat what?" Says Abel.
"Mac n' cheese."
"Yay!"
Layla and Abel ate their food and started to watch television. It was then and there were their parents came in. "Mom! Dad! Where were you guys?" Layla said.
Their father approached them and said "Children, gather around. It's time we tell you the truth."
