Madeline turned around slowly, facing her pursuer.

There was a tall, skinny shadow from what she could see, approaching her rather quickly with a few more silhouettes behind it.

I'm done for,  she thought to herself.

As the man got closer, she could finally make out his features. He was tall and skinny, as she had thought, and had medium length, black dyed hair. A few tattoos could be seen on his neck and his arms, which were partially covered up by a rolled up, long sleeve shirt. He looked close to her age and somewhat familiar, but she couldn't place her finger on it.

While she had been staring at the stranger, he had walked right up to her, and she realized how beautiful this man actually was. Beautiful but intimidating. Did he have powers to make him look good?

He's not even afraid of me.

Too afraid to  say anything and too injured to move, she sat there, waiting for her inevitable end.

The man, the leader as it looked like, snapped his fingers to the three other people, whom were much older than him, and who were dressed in military gear. Two men held a rope and handcuffs, and the other one held a baton.

Weird... He must be the youngest, yet he's acting like their boss.

As the three henchmen got closer, they grabbed Madeline off the ground, hoisting her up to her feet. Madeline winced as she felt a pain in her ankle. Luckily, the men were strong and holding her up, for the most part. They handcuffed her behind her back, making sure not to touch her hands, and then they tied her legs together, picking her up like a child.

The whole time, the leader had stared at her, curiously, as if trying to figure her out by looking into her soul. Madeline felt violated, but this was the price she had to pay for killing her only family.

The three men began walking back to the village where there was a large, black jail truck with no windows but the driver and passenger's side. The men threw Madeline in the back of the truck onto a bench within it. They all spoke to each other in hushed tones, not wanting Madeline to hear their conversation, but Madeline tried to listen anyways to find out her fate.

Frustrated that she couldn't hear any actual words, she gave up and slumped down on the bench.

Finally, the leader and one military man jumped into the back with her, closing the large, back doors behind them. The military man sat on her right with a tranquilizer gun, and the leader sat on the bench across from them.

The leader was the first to talk. "What is your name?"

Madeline refused to talk partially because she was terrified and partially because she was afraid that he would tell it to the governor, so she just shook her head.

"Are you mute? I asked you for your name." The leader looked slightly annoyed by her lack of participation. "If you won't willingly tell me what I want to know, then I'll get it out of you sooner or later."

She finally spoke up. "M-my name i-is Madeline... Madeline Tori." Her voice was quiet, almost indecipherable. She knew if she pissed off government officials, her fate would be worse than just getting locked up.

"Madeline Tori, huh? Well, Madeline, you're probably wondering what's going to happen to you, right? We're taking you to the Biersack Institution Asylum to have you evaluated on your mentality and your powers. You killed dozens of people back there. Does this happen to be your 18th birthday today?"

She gulped, shaking. "Yes... It is, but I didn't mean to kill them, I swear!"

"No, no one ever does when they first emerge. The cursed 18th birthday. The day the Condemned Ones gain their abilities. You know, if you participate, you can be spared. We don't HAVE TO kill you." The leader still stared at her, making her uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gave.
