"We're so sorry, Ms. Costa, she needs a bone marrow transplant," Dr. Bautista tells me softly as I try to keep myself composed.

My daughter.

My 4 year old daughter.

Alessandra.

She needed a bone marrow transplant.

"Test me," I demanded, rolling up the sleeve of my shirt.

He smiled softly and nodded, "Of course, but the actuality of you being a donor is small-"

"My parents, they'll be tested too. And Paulo," I ramble.

"Ms. Costa, the more relatives we have the more likely we'll have a match. Especially if she had a sibling-"

"She doesn't," I cut him off, not wanting to acknowledge her older half brother, who she doesn't even know exists.

He nods understandingly, "Of course, we'll do our best to control her pain levels while we look for a match, but please understand we need to work quickly." He leads me to the area of the hospital where I could be tested. After drawing my blood and telling me what room Aly was in.

I walked into her room to find her asleep with more machines hooked up to her than I cared to acknowledge. I sighed deeply before calling Paulo.

"Hola, hermana. How'd Lyssa's appointment go?"

"Oh, Paolo," I cried, "She needs a bone marrow transplant."

"Mierda... Sofia and I are on the way to the hospital right now," he tells me before hanging up. I hold my head in my hands for a few moments before I feel hear some shuffling on the bed.

"Mami, que te pasa?" Aly mumbles dryly. I quickly pour her some water and hand it to her. "Nothing you need to worry about, bebe. You just focus on resting, ok? Tio will be here in a few minutes to see you," I say softly before kissing her forehead. She nods softly and turns to fall back asleep.

I sit back down on the plastic chair and call my mom.

"Madre, por favor, I don't know what to do?"

"What do you mean, hija?"

"Aly, she n-needs a bone marrow transplant o-or else..."

My mother cuts me off, "We're not going to think about that, Lina. Your father and I are on our way to come get tested, ok?"

"Ok..." I mumble as I hang up because my brother walked in hand-in-hand with Sofia. I throw my arms around him.

"Shhh.... its ok. It'll all be ok." He mumbles into my hair while stroking it.

-

"Lo siento mucho, Catalina. None of you are matches," Dr. Bautista reads his chart sadly as I fall into my mother's arms in tears. Sofia gasped and hugged Paolo, while my father just stared at Alessandra.

After we all better composed ourselves, my parents and Sofia went to get food. Paolo bent down in front of me and took my hands in his, "Cata, we need to talk."

"I don't want to lose her," I shake my head at the thought.

"You don't have to, but the only answer at this point is to tell h-"

"I know, but what if he doesn't care enough to help us. He doesn't even know she exists, he has no reason to care."

Paolo looks at me, "Nobody is that heartless."

-

I walk into the large, glass building dressed in a deep red skater dress, black boots, and a black blazer. I walk up, somewhat unconfidently to the gorgeous secretary, "Uhm, what floor is Jorge Mendes' office?"
