Why Can't We Be Like That? (Seventeen Jeonghan x CLC Seunghee)

Chapter Six ** Silent Tears

Seunghee is still thinking about what happened last night. She finally admitted to Jeonghan how she feels. And she’s really happy he’s feeling the same. She never asked for it at the start. It was okay for her if she was the only one, but now that it has come to this, the only thing left is for her to let Yuta know. That she doesn’t love him anymore. That she fell out of love too soon and that she didn’t mean it.

Jeonghan is the same. All he can think about is Seunghee. Chaeyeon doesn’t even cross his mind now unless he sees her. But he plans to break it to her soon. He can’t let Seunghee wait anymore.

They both decided not to see each other until they end their ties with their current partners. It’s inevitable for them to commit more sins if they continue to see each other the way they are. Though they keep their communication, they keep it that way. Like a long distance relationship, until everything is clear. Until they can stand out in the light.

On his way home, Yuta hears something tingling in his pocket. He wonders what it is since he doesn’t have any cents. He pulls it out and sees Seunghee’s spare keys. He doesn’t know how it got there. But he better give it back to her.

Without calling or texting her, he comes over her apartment. He plans to surprise her by showing up and startling her wherever she is in the house. So he goes in without even knocking.

He sneaks inside soundlessly and he wonders why it seems too silent. He goes further in and finally finds her. She’s sleeping soundly in her room. All covered up under the sheets and still looking as beautiful as ever. It seems she had been sleeping for a while now. Maybe she fell asleep instantly cuz she was a little tired from the day and lacks sleep from last night, he thought. She told him that, that’s why she went on ahead.

He’s mesmerized staring at her. He has never really seen her sleeping in their two years together. They’ve never slept together, she said she wasn’t ready yet so he respects her decision. But today, she looks so inviting, he can’t help it.

He slowly goes over her sleeping state. and realizes once again that he loves her. He never thought he’d fall in love this hard for her. She was only a classmate and a schoolmate, but now she’s almost everything to him. Even though he doesn’t show it too much cuz he believes he has to keep some for himself, he’s actually all about her.

He squats near her and caresses her hair, her face and eventually, shoves his head to hers and kisses her. He gives her a peck at first but sooner, since they don’t kiss that much, it turns into an obsessive kiss.

In her sleep, she’s dreaming. She sees Jeonghan and suddenly he gives her a kiss. She feels like melting she doesn’t wanna wake up. But all of a sudden, it feels too real she wonders why. When she comes to and opens her eyes, she proves it’s actually happening with another man kissing her. From there, she rises from the bed and violently pushes the guy away, not aware that he’s Yuta and keeps hitting him.

“Get away from me!!” she screams.

“Seunghee it’s me! Chill! It’s just me! Yuta!” he replies her as he holds her wrists.

For a moment, she calms down and looks at him to make sure it’s really him. She’s relieved. But somehow she ends up crying, from the shock and everything.

“Hey… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. Come on,” he says. He releases her wrists and goes over to give her a hug and caress her back. “I’m sorry. Stop crying now.”

“Why did you do it? And how did you get in?” she asks a bit stable now. She faces him but still with teardrops on her cheeks.

He wipes her tears away gently and tells her, “I had your spare keys. I didn’t know how. So I just walked in hoping to surprise you. I didn’t plan to scare you at all. I’m sorry okay?”

“What were you thinking?” this time she’s a bit mad.

“Come on, I just wanted to surprise you… and kiss you.”

He’s sincere and he looks pained. Then she remembers her dream about Jeonghan. Guilt suddenly consumes her. And thinking about it, she should’ve known it was Yuta cuz he’s still her boyfriend. They are still together. Realizing her fault, she stays silent and diverts her eyes somewhere but at him. It hits him that she’s not in the mood for this.

“Alright, I’ll just go ahead. You get some nice sleep okay? I’ll just lock the doors. Good night Seunghee.”

He kisses her on the forehead and walks away. She’s still not looking at him when he turns to give her a final glance. He can feel his heart breaking. He expects a different reaction from her. He wants a different one and not this. So he just leaves her alone, all upset.

After hearing the door close, she curls onto her knees and hugs herself. Her tears just can’t stop falling. This guilt trip overcoming her. Her conscience is rapidly killing her. She has to tell him soon, to end her misery.

Chaeyeon goes over his apartment today. She seldom does it but recently, she has been insistent on visiting his place. He tells her not to come but she’ll show up anyway.

“You better go home early,” Jeonghan tells her.

They’re at the living room, watching some movie. Sitting together, like always.

“I want to stay oppa. I think I want to sleep over tonight,” she states.

He doesn’t want to make the issue bigger so he replies calmly, “Go home Chaeyeon.”

She smiles at him and teases him, “Why, what’s wrong oppa? Don’t you want me to stay? Even just for tonight.”

“No, I don’t. You’ve been here more than you have to. So go home.”

He sounds so cold it’s obvious he doesn’t want her around. Chaeyeon is feeling it. There is something going wrong between them. But she tries her best to disregard it, cuz she can’t decipher where she went or what she did to make him this way. She wants to believe it’s just his mood turning sour every now and then.

“Oppa…”

She cuddles with him, closer than ever before, clinging onto his arm tightly. She wants to turn him back. To the old cunning him. That someone who’s judging but sweet anyways. But it all breaks. She gets right down shattered cuz he rejects her. He pushes her away gently, without hurting her, but completely crushes her heart.

“You better go home now Chaeyeon.”

At the same time, he walks to the door and opens it for her, while waiting for her to exit.

She doesn’t know if she will fight with him or not. She still has her pride and what he’s doing is rather insulting. She’s offering herself, but he discards her big time. There are things she can and cannot take.  This is her limit. So she obliges and just walks to the door. However, she leers at him before steeping out of the room.

“I’ll come back tomorrow, and don’t you push me out again.”

He only silently looks at her and she walks away. He simply shuts the door after she has gone and heaves a sigh. He doesn’t know what to do anymore. He has to break it to her soon. What more troubles him is that fact that Seunghee has to be with Yuta longer if he doesn’t break up with Chaeyeon. It’s only yesterday they officially named their relationship. But they can’t even be together yet. However, they will be soon. He’ll make sure of it.
