Chapter Sixteen
Hidden
Riley was lost; angry. The pain in his chest was so strong it nearly paralyzed him, but that pain was nothing compared to the anger he felt inside. How could his mate say something so devastating to him? Deny him something she should have been eager to give him?
“You need to stop coming back here when things don’t go your way, young prince.”
In a flash, Riley had crossed over the furniture he had thrown about and held the wizard by his throat against the wall. “You,” he began in hiss; his eyes flashing bloodlust red. “You have no right to tell me anything; what I can or cannot do, and what my future may or may not behold.” His grip tightened and he could literally feel the life slipping from the creature. “No right,” he hissed again before dropping the creature and flashing to the other side of the room.
Remus forced himself to stand; coughing the air back into his lungs. He had been around far too long to show fear to other races, but that didn’t mean in that moment he wasn’t afraid for his life. Riley was young; unpredictable; and very much, angry.
“Bring her here,” the wizard forced in whisper.
Riley turned to glare at the old man for daring to speak to him. His fangs were still elongated, eyes were still crimson; at any moment he could end the wizards’ life and live the rest of his life with no regret. That was both the curse and the blessing of his creature.
Fully sensing the vampires lingering rage, Remus rubbed his throat and forced his voice to work fully. “The girl; bring her here, to the Kingdom.”
Riley turned back to the window. Rubbing the bridge of his nose, his mind reeled. “She is friends with a young wolf. He fancies her. I can smell it on him,” Riley admitted ruefully.
“All the more reason for her to be here, surrounded by people who adore you, and away from her world’s distractions.”
Riley considered the wizards words. Secretly, he wished he could take her away from all of that. Bring her to his home and work on revealing who he truly was. But could he really bring himself to do that? He wasn’t sure.
It sounded easy enough. Riley laughed. Of course it could sound easy, but it wouldn’t be. Not with his beloved Krishna. In that moment, he thought about the spitfire she was and laughed again.
No; bringing her to his home, convincing her to go anywhere with him, would not be easy.

Just as Krishna had expected, it wasn’t long after Lucas left before a knock at her room door produced two uniformed officers of the law. As hesitant as she was to answer, having already considered packing up and leaving, she knew that would only cause further problem. ‘They aren’t here for you,’ she had to keep reminding herself as she paced around her room, waiting for their arrival.
“Sorry to disturb you, ma’am, but we are knocking on all the doors,” the shorter of the two men said. The taller, scruffier one had a notebook and pen in hand, ready to take notes and descriptions. Krishna nodded. “A girl was murdered just outside this morning, and we need to know if you saw or heard anything.”
Cops made her nervous and she was fighting hard against that feeling now as she looked back and forth between the two. If they could sense it, they didn’t show it, and for that, Krishna was relieved. Still, she was not comfortable with cops of any nature being so close to her.
“Um, no. I mean, I was out earlier, but didn’t see anything,” she said honestly. The hotel had cameras in the lobby. She spotted them upon first entering and considered them, at the time, a challenge. If she lied about being out so late at night, the challenge would lie in her having to continue running when they uncovered the truth, and she wasn’t willing to draw even more attention in that sense.
