Chapter Eight: Percy

Percy felt like a wimp. Piper had just watched all his weakest moments while he just screamed in the backround, then, he managed to get himself badly hurt, just slowing them down on their way back to the ship. Percy knew Piper wasn't going to let him stay behind, and he was kind of grateful for that. The pain in his chest was horrible and there were bruises forming all over his body. The images Geryon showed them kept replaying in his head.

"Where do we go now?" Piper asked.

"We need to find what's steering this ship," Percy replied, he was glad to be on the water, he knew he could find the Argo II if he could get to the ship's helm.

"Follow me." he told her. She nodded. He led her through the ship and up on to the deck where the helm sat. There was no one steering it, it didn't seem like there was anyone else on the ship.

"That's odd," Piper said, reading his mind.

"It's good," Percy replied, "This ship is headed for Athens, if we stop here, the Argo II shouldn't be too far behind us." he stated.

"Wow," Piper said, "those water-powers really come in handy."

"U-huh," Percy agreed. Percy went grabbed the helm and pulled the ship to a halt. After a few moments of silence, Piper spoke up.

"Percy," she said, "I-I'm really sorry," she mumbled.

"About what?" Percy said, confused.

"A-about what Geryon showed us, I-I didn't know that you had been through so much in your life and-"

"Piper," Percy cut in, "I don't want you to feel sorry for me, it's okay, I-I'm fine, that's all in my past." Percy stuttered, he didn't know if Piper would believe him, he didn't feel very fine, but he obviously didn't want her to know that.

"How could you be fine?" she asked, "Percy, you don't always have to be so brave." she added.

"Says the one!" Percy chuckled. A huge smile spread across Piper's face.

"What?!" Piper laughed while playfully punching his arm, Percy could sense a good friendship coming on with Piper, he was glad of it, she was like Annabeth's best friend and she was starting to feel like a little sister to him.

"Percy I'm being serious." she laughed.

Suddenley, Percy saw Piper's eyes widen, she gasped and yelled, "PERCY, LOOK OUT!" but it was too late. Pain shot through Percy's entire body as two poisionous fangs sank themselves into his shoulder. He screamed in pain. His vision went blurry but he saw Piper yank out Katoptris and then the next thing he saw was a cloud of golden dust falling to the ground.

He fell to his knees, clutching his shoulder. He could vaguely hear Piper screaming his name grabbing hold of his arms but it was too late, black spots started to appear in his vision and the world went black.
