Prologue
When people say that high school is wonderful and when you're parents tell stories of how great everything was back when they were in school, I just want to let you know that there lying because honestly school sucks.
You're get stuck in different classrooms for 6 hours just to get an education and most of the people there never listen anyway so I don't see why they should go to school.
Even though school really does suck, you do actually learn some really interesting stuff and that's the only reason that I'm still here.
Sure I'm just a normal girl just like the rest of them here but the only difference between me and them is that I actually listen and keep my grades up, that's also the reason that I get called a nerd but I don't really care about that, I'd rather be a nerd than an idiot who can't get a job because they have no qualifications or skills.
Anyways enough of me jabbering on about stupid school, you didn't come here to read about my hatred of school, you came here to read my story so here it goes....
Ariella's pov
Walking through the school hallways and sitting on the floor in front of my locker is something I do every day, it's been a routine since I started at Northway high. As I sit down in front of the locker I glance around the hallway making sure no one's around before pulling my book out of my bag and making myself comfy on the floor to read it.
After 20 minutes the rest of the students start to arrive so I put my book back in my locker, grab what I need and walk towards my first lesson. As I reach the door of Mr Erik's, English class, I see him walk down the hallway and walk into his room.
"Morning Sir" I say as I sit down in my seat
"Good morning Ariella" he replies smiling
"What are we doing today then?" I ask
"Well I'm thinking about setting an assignment on the Shakespeare piece we've been reading" he says and I grin widely
"The class isn't going to like that sir" I tell him and he chuckles
"I know, I wish they were more like you" he says and I look at him confused
"Why would you want them to be like me?" I ask
"Because you are actually interested in learning and actually pass the tests that are given out, whereas the rest of the class fail because they never listen." He explains and I nod, that's really true everyone else in my top set English class never seem to listen to Mr Erik's and are always talking about stupid nonsense that nobody but them actually cares about.
I know I must seem like a stuck up snob, but I'm not I just don't see the point in going to school if you're just going to sit there bored for 6 hours doing nothing, whereas if you actually listen to the teacher you have actually done something with your time and learned something you might have not known about before. I'm suddenly pulled from my train of thought when the bell rings and my classmates file into the room.
"Good morning class!" Mr Erik's chirps happily
"Mornin'" the rest of the class mumble while I just roll my eyes
"Today were going to be doing a paper on Shakespeare's A mid summer nights dream" Mr Erik's says cheerfully and nearly everyone groans
"But Sir most of us have no idea what to write! The only person is the nerd" Lindsey, a popular girl form my school, says sending me a disgusted look
"And that's why I'm letting you have partners" he says
"But there's twenty one of us Sir, its an uneven amount" one of the jocks at the back say
"I know that Dillon, Ariella is going to work on her own" Mr Erik's explains
"But Sir I wanted to work with her!" Lily, another popular girl, exclaims
"No, you just wanted her to do all the work for you" he replies and Lily rolls her eyes at him
"Well then you have the rest off this lesson to make a plan for what your going to write" Sir tells us all and I pull my note book out and get to work. Before I know it the lessons finished and I'm packing away my stuff.
The rest of the day seems to go fast too because I'm soon walking out of the school gates and on my way home. My house, well flat, is 40 minutes away from school and since I don't have a car I have to walk to and from school everyday. I don't mind to be honest I like to walk and clear my head before going back home to my empty flat. I walk down the familiar route, when I reach the alley I usually walk down its strange, its like something has changed. I hesitate at the entrance but decide its better to walk through the alley than to walk around it, which takes an extra 15 minutes. I start to walk further down when I hear something in front of me and freeze
"Why would a pretty girl like you be walking down here?" A male voice asks and I jump
"Because I need to get home" I reply
rolling my eyes
"Feisty, I like it" he says smirking
"Right, well nice talking to you.. Well not really but I've got to go so bye who ever you are" I say and start walking again
"Whoa! Where do you think your going princess?" He asks grabbing onto my arm
"Home" I reply bluntly and he laughs
"Why don't you stay here for a bit?" He asks winking suggestively
"No thanks! I'm just going to go home" I say and pull my arm from his grip
"Awww babe don't be like that! Stay here for a bit" he says
"No I would rather go home and read or something then stay here with you" I say and start to walk away
"Fine! But your missing out on a lot babe!" He shouts
"Oh and my names Carter Ridge, if you need me look me up. I'm sure you'll find me" he says winking and I just roll my eyes and carry on walking. Carter Ridge... I must admit that his name does suit that bad boy vibe I got from him... I wonder if I'll ever see him again...
