Chapter 20:

Ashley's P.O.V.

"How does this happen?" Angel forced his fist through the mirror and into the wall.
I watched as glass shards and rubble from the wall fell in what seemed like slow motion to the floor and scattered across the carpet. I looked from shocked Melody to anger ridden Angel and wordlessly left the room.

Things were getting out of control here.

Raven, where are you?

Melody's P.O.V.

I lay on the hard bed, the irritating material of the duvet covering my face. My tired eyes were sore, puffy and probably bright red. A shouting voice could be heard down the hall. It was Angel of course. I could also hear Ashley attempting to calm him down.

What happened to level headed Angel? The one who had all the right answers and was always in control and knew what to do. I lay in wait, expecting him to come storming into the room at any moment.

I put my hands over my ears and let my body shut down.

Sometime later, what was probably only a few hours, I arose from my slumber. I kicked something heavy from the end of my bed and onto the floor and then got up to inspect what it was. To my surprise it was a painting with the words;

'Soon we'll be together. You'll join me in hell.' painted across the otherwise blank canvas. I gulped and scrutinised the canvas. What did this mean? Who was it from? Did the person who bit me leave it? A thousand questions swam through my mind, none of which I could answer.

I calmly stood up, put the painting into the bin and walked out of the room. There was no more shouting, and to be honest I would have been surprised if there had been. In fact the house seemed warm and peaceful. It seemed Ashley had succeeded in calming down Angel.

It was about midday now and they were probably in their rooms away from the very bright sun light. I walked back to my room and sat on the end of my bed, staring at the bin with painting in it.

A sickening cracking noise had me nearly jumping out of my skin. My eyes automatically looked to and out the window. Two dark figures stood opposite each other in the field dressed in black and hooded, protected from the sunlight. One I could make out as Angel, the other person's face I couldn't see. I decided to observe them instead of running out and getting myself into bad situations, like I usually did.

They advanced on each other slowly, almost cautiously, and started what looked like a simple sparring match. I stared with curiosity, I hadn't known that Angel could fight. The fighting got more intense, more aggressive, and Angel flung his opponent into a tree, making the tree snap in half and topple over. My blood ran cold as I discovered this "enemy" was actually Ashley. Ashley pounced back at Angel fangs bared, hood flailing. Their eyes matched one another's, empty yet filled with a chilling blood red pigment. Angel failed to dodge Ashley on time and was tackled to the ground, pinned down at the arms.

Angel's lips appeared to be moving but I could not hear what he was saying, nor could I read his lips. Ashley smiled menacingly and replied, he slowly inched closer to Angel. Was he going to bite him? My neck burned furiously at the thought. He stopped and was hovering over Angel's face. I noticed that Angel hadn't been struggling to break free, he had simply accepted defeat.

Ashley let go of one of Angel's arms and reached behind his back, he was talking to Angel at the same time. Their eyes were locked on to each others. Ashley's arm was up in the air, poised to strike, and he appeared to be holding a sharpened stick of some sort. He brought his arm down, it was like slow motion yet it was happening so fast. I could see thst Angel had squeezed his eyes shut.

I spun round away from the window and buired my face in my hands. My heart was beating so fast it hurt.
I heard no screaming, no growling, no snarling, no suffering. After about a solid minute of holding my head in my hand, assuming what I had seen had been the death of Angel, I took a deep breath and turned around preparing myself mentally.

My heart ceased to beat for a moment. Ashley had been thrown onto his back halfway across the field, Angel was propped up on his forearms, still lying on his back, staring up at a third figure that had separated the two.

His hair was still the same, his face was still the same, but his eyes; they were different.
No emotions could be felt from within me. I sprinted from my room as fast as humanly possible, out the front door, around by the front of the house and around to the back field where the three men were. Angel was on his feet now, dusting off his hands and rubbing the side of his arms. Ashley was sat where he had been thrown to, his eyes were distant and yet seemed focused on the swaying grass. He carefully placed his hood over his head but said nothing.

Angel's eyes met mine briefly before he looked away. I ran passed Angel and threw myself into the person who had created more trouble for us than needed. My arms locked around his back and I buried my face into the fabric of his navy sweatshirt.

Ashley spoke up, an element of anger within his voice. "I thought you'd left us for good."

He got no reply.

"Raven? Ar-"

"I had to do what I had to do." Raven spoke back calmly, the sound of his voice was heaven to my ears.

His left arm went around my back and his right arm was now gesturing towards Angel.
"Riddle me this; why did I find you about to stab Angel?"

I looked up at Raven's pale face that was completely exposed to the sun, then to Angel who had flipped his hood back up. Angel glared at Ashley before stalking back to the house wordlessly. Ashley stared at Raven with empty eyes that had thankfully gone back to their original jungle green colour. I nervously glanced up at Raven as his grip on me tightened ever so slightly. The colour in his eyes seemed to swirl around, a tint of red adding to the amber colour.

His eyes flittered to mine and the red that had settled in his eyes dissolved. He took a deep controlling breath.

"I'll speak to the two of you about this later." Was all he said.
