PROLOGUE

It was a bright morning, the sun has just come out, the people of the Olumawa town are just waking up and getting ready to go to work, every home has the peaceful setting of the morning except from one home, the home of the Alarin family, the pain in this house is too much to bear, for sorrow has filled the atmosphere, the death of the beloved father of the Alarin family has brought in the mood, he has left behind His wife Pamilara, his son Kema and his two daughters ,the eldest Kiki and youngest Tolu in the hands of his brother, Gbenga.

Early afternoon in Olumawa town the students have just finished from school and on their way home, Kikis best friend Amirat invited her over to her house, for her parents were not around, they could not leave her unsupervised so they told her brother Seun from the city to watch her. Kiki arrived early thinking she would be back home before sunset but sadly she was greatly mistaken for she did not know the danger that laid in front of her as she stepped foot into the home of the Olomiree family.

In the Olomiree house, there was a knock at the door, Amirat, Amirat there is someone at the door go and get it Seun said from the kitchen, Seun I cant, Im busy Amirat said from her room

painting my toenails, I cannot place them on the floor, you cant expect me to get it

if I slap you from here, you better go and get that door

ugh Amirat said from her room, she stood up from her bed and stormed out of her room to get the door, she opened it to reveal Kiki standing on the other side of the door, ooh its you Kiki, come in, we can start with our homework then revise before eating and you can go home Amirat said as Kiki entered the house ok thats perfect I just need to be home before sunset Kiki replied.

who is that at the door Amirat Seun said as he stepped out of the kitchen with a plate of rice and stew and a cup of water, ooh its just my friend Kiki Amirat replied.

ooh hello, Kiki such a beautiful name, my manners Im Seun, Amirats elder brother Seun greeted Kiki, good day sir Kiki replied

oh no please dont Seun is ok Seun said looking Kiki up and down in an admirable way

Seun, ok she replied feeling uneasy

Amirat rolled her eyes Seun please stop flirting with my friend Amirat said irritated Kiki come on we have work to do Amirat said going to her room with Kiki following behind her.

dont mind my brother hes just immature, come on lets do our work so you can get home early Amirat said when they entered the room. They studied for about half an hour before they took a break to eat, when they finished eating they went back to doing their work, they spent so much time doing it that they slept off.

Kiki woke up really late, realising that she has lost track of time she packed her things and started heading for the door, when she got to the sitting room. she saw a moving figure coming towards her she was so terrified for it was dark she screamed, she felt something near her and grabbed it and hit it on the figure, she heard a groan and went to switch on the light, it turned out to be Seun

ooh no, no, no, Im so sorry please forgive me it was a mistake I didnt know it was you Kiki begged

its ok, aagh Seun screamed, ooh is you ok Kiki asked, scared she might have hurt him badly, its o he cringed in pain maybe you could help me to my room Seun asked, ooh ummm sure but I would have to hurry to get home in time Kiki replied, she took one of his hands and lifted him up and put one hand around her neck, she found it difficult at first to lead him firstly but later got the hand of it, she placed him on his bed and covered him with his blanket but before she could leave the most outraging thing happened ,he grabbed Kikis hand and dragged her onto the bed what are you doing, let me go Kiki screamed at him, struggling ,come on Kiki, I like you, why dont we have fun he said pushing her on the bed and walking to the door to lock it, dont try screaming, Amirat is a deep sleeper, she wont hear you he said going towards the bed, Kiki tried running away from him, but her actions failed ,that night her purity and innocence were forcefully taken away from her .

The walk home was the most shameful walk ever; when she got home, she was greeted by silence, her family has already gone to bed, she went to her room and laid down on her bed thinking of the future that is yet to come.

Kiki woke up with a huge burden on her shoulders, she knew that she would have to tell her family that her virginity was stripped from her, she has woken up for the past three weeks with this burden on her, she got up from her bed, and went to take her bath and dress up, Kiki is always the first to wake up for she has to clean the house and make breakfast. she didnt see any of her family members after her bath and cleaning of the house, no one had awoken yet so she went into her room and laid down ,she felt an uneasiness in her like the food from last night wanted to come out ,she quickly stood up and ran to the toilet and let it out ,the bile stunk which made her puke more ,when it was all out she cleaned her face and went back to her room ,she laid down thinking

ooh please no Kiki said with tears running down her face ,she denied the thought that ran through her head and brushed it aside, then realization struck her all the morning sickness shes been having ,always getting tired easily ,she put her face in her hands and cried .when she stopped crying she grabbed her purse checked if there was money inside, she had to be sure of her predictions, there was only 500 naira which was enough to buy the item she needed, she went to the nearest store and bought two pregnancy tests , she checked her watch and saw that she had enough time to check the pregnancy tests before her family woke up, she hurried home and quickly followed the instructions to the test, thankfully everyone was still asleep , after the test she waited one minute before checking for the result.

A minute to Kiki seemed like an entire life time waiting for the results of her future, after a minute she went to check the result, it took some time for her to open her eyes and see the result, but just as she was about to see it, her sister Tolu enters her room

Kiki, have you woken up her sister said

is there a problem Tolu Kiki asked, daddy is calling you Tolu replied, Im coming

dont take too long Tolu said as she left the room. Kiki stood up and placed the test under her pillow without looking at it and left the room.

ekaro daddy Kiki said as she greeted her father Kiki ,your mother had to leave early to go to work and I dont have any money on me at the moment so you have to find a way to make food for your brother and sister, I and Gbenga are going to the shop and we would be back late so dont stay up for us and tell your mother when she comes back ,ok Mr Alarin said

yes sir Kiki replied .when her father and brother left she went to see what her siblings were doing ,Kema was still sleeping and Tolu went to have her bath ,so that gave her time to go and check the result, she went to her room and brought out the result from under her pillow ,she checked the result and couldnt believe her eyes, it was like all the senses in her had stopped except her eyes she couldnt hear ,smell or even speak ,even her body wasnt functioning her body couldnt hold her anymore that she fell to the floor ,the tears that were supposed to come out couldnt she was just staring into space, when she finally came back to her senses she went to her table ,got a piece of paper and pen and wrote a letter to her family,

Dear Family,

I have shamed the name Alarin , I do not deserve to have the name or even remain in this family so I have taken it upon myself to leave, I know you would never forgive me again for the shame I have caused you , so I will not ask for your forgiveness , at this rate you are asking yourself what shame have I caused, well sadly I have been impregnated ,I should have been more careful and not have fallen into this mess , please do not blame yourselves either for you have done a great job raising me well , now its my turn to do the same to my child, I have been raised well ,that I know that I cannot abort this child, I will do my best to protect and care for this child the same way you have protected and cared for me for the last eighteen years .Thank you for everything youve done for me ,Ill never forget you

she folded the letter and kept it on the family table where everyone can see it.

Kiki got all her belongings together and carefully left her home, without being seen by her siblings she had no plan, no place to live, just determination, faith and hope to give her unborn child everything she could give, hopefully more.

A mothers heart is always with her children.
