Asthma. Out of all of the sicknesses you could have been born with, you had asthma. Now, you weren't complaining too much, since things could've gone much worse, but asthma attacks weren't fun either. It didn't help that your parents pretty much hated you, and left you to basically fend for yourself, only giving you a place to sleep and sometimes not even that. So of course they never bothered with your asthma attacks. Your most recent one sent you straight to the hospital's emergency room. And those oh-so-great parents of yours didn't think that your breathing problem was of any concern to them, so you drove your 15 year old butt to the hospital while being in the middle of nearly dying.
When you got there, you were informed that your lungs had filled with fluid from coughing so much, and that if you hadn't of come when you did you could've died.
You silently cursed your parents' idiocy in your head.
Of course the staff questioned you about their absence, but you just said they went on a one week trip and would be back later. While you hated them, you'd much rather not be put into the system. Lying about them not being with you has always easy. You learned at a young age what would happen if you didn't.
Now, most people would think that the lack of parental love and guidance would mess you up permanently, but you were actually pretty playful and happy when in public.
The nurse who was overseeing your wing of the hospital experienced this first-hand. All he wanted to do was check your vitals, but no, you had to be difficult.
You made yourself a pillow fort and were refusing to come out. What made it better was that you were also telling said nurse to 'fight you'.
"Fight me!" You said, your face sticking out of the pillow fort.
He just laughed and politely refused.
This particular nurse was the same age as you. You soon found out he was Yukio Okumura, the twin brother of your best friend, Rin Okumura. He was pretty tall, standing at about 5' 11'' and had two moles below his left eye and another one under his mouth. His hair was a light brown, a striking difference compared to his brother's bluenette hair. The only thing that the two had in common was a slightly similar eye color, Yukio's being a teal and Rin's being an ocean blue.
"So, can I please check your vitals now?" he asked, smiling.
"Hmm, I guess so... but you'll have to catch me!" you challenged.
You dived into your pillow fort and giggled. Moments later, the top of your fort was removed and Yukio's face appeared.
"I win," he announced.
"I guess you do."
You allowed him to do his job and watched as he wrote down some notes on a clipboard. You noticed how he wrote and were immediately confused.
"Hey Yukio, when you came in here, weren't you writing with the other hand."
He looked over to you and explained.
"Oh, uh, yes I was. I'm ambidextrous, allowing me to write clearly with both hands. I had to learn while I had a broken hand."
"How'd you break your hand?" you questioned.
"Well, when I'm not here, I am a teacher at True Cross Academy."
Your eyes widened at that.
"You're an exorcist! Like Rin!?"
He nodded and was about to say something else, but was cut off by a buzzer on his belt going off.
