Chapter 3
I stood there motionless. Noell? I’ve known Noell since the first day of sixth grade. She was innocent and sweet. She wouldn’t hurt a fly. I sat there in pure shock, watching my best friend hold hands with my other best friend’s boyfriend. I couldn’t bring myself to confront her. I walked away with a sting of pain in my heart. How could she? I walked to go find Enil. She was nowhere to be found, and I searched all over the empty halls of the school. Enil! Where are you?! I used my entire study hall searching for her. When the bell rang I was worried. I dragged myself to my most hated class, chemistry. I took a seat at my lab bench and slumped down in my chair. This morning wasn’t turning out so great. Suddenly a familiar deep voice rang in my ear. “Huh?” I said turning to Patrick. “I mean I’m sorry, I just have a lot on my mind. “ I spoke honestly. “Well I was saying in order to contact you I need your number miss.” Patrick said sitting down next to me with a worried look on his face. “Alright class! Today is a work day for the science fair! Ariana, could you catch Patrick up on everything?” asked Mr. Chip. I nodded as a response. “This morning you were in such a cute mood?, what could’ve happened in between classes?” said Patrick. I shrugged my shoulders “Girl Stuff” I responded. Patrick’s face went pale. I laughed really loudly, and got some glares. “Not THAT girl stuff!” I laughed. A bit a relief spread across Patrick’s face. I giggled at his reaction. “See you have such a cute giggle.” He said while poking my nose, “now what would get you in such a bad mood?” I smiled at how much he cared. I guess he really did like me. “Well, it’s just friend drama, ya know?” I said nudging him. “Oh I see, well don’t let anyone, even your friends deprive you of such a beautiful smile, okay?” he said pulling me in for a hug. I hugged him back, I trusted him for some reason. “Why are you so forward?” I asked. It’s like the dude says the exact right things, and he isn’t shy about it. He laughed at my question. “I am?” he said while playing with my curls. “Yeah, guys that usually flirt with me aren’t as, um , direct, as you.” I said looking at those gray eyes. “Well I just say what’s exactly on my mind. It’s just how I am. Like when I saw you walk into the classroom all flustered I thought you were beautiful.” He said looking at me. I smiled and looked down. He placed his finger under my chin and lifted my head towards his. “Don’t ever hide that smile from me.” He said with all seriousness. “Um, maybe I should give you my number now,” I said not knowing how to respond to that statement. When he looked at me, it felt like my heart was going to beat right out of my chest. “Yeah you might want to do that.” he said smiling and letting my face go. I scribbled it down on a piece of paper. As the bell rang I realized we didn’t talk about the science fair the whole time. “Oh my gosh, I didn’t even tell you about the science fair!” I basically yelled in the hallway. He chuckled “It’s okay I can always call you.” He winked. Then he walked away. I didn’t realize I was staring at him until my phone buzzed in my pocket. I checked to see who it was from. For once I was glad it was from Enil. Enil: I need the book, put it in my locker, you know the combination. I was surprised, why does she need the book? Is it because of what she said when she saw Noell? I replied Me: WTF ENIL!! WHERE ARE YOU?! Why do you need the book? We agreed after the sleepover that I would keep the book at all times. Whoever needed it wrote what they needed and gave it back to me. I was like, the book keeper. Haha Book keeper. I made my way to lunch, realizing that all three of us had lunch together. My phone buzzed again in my pocket. Enil: To write stuff duh! Just give it to me after lunch stupid. I walked to lunch pondering if I should really give Enil the book. I grabbed my lunch and sat at our normal table which was empty. I was usually the first to sit anyway. Noell sat across from me. “Hey Ariana!” she said really peppy. I couldn’t even look at her. How could she be in a good mood when she was cheating with her bestfriend’s boyfriend. “Hey” I responded emotionlessly. “Everything okay Ari?” Noell asked concerned. Oh please. “Just Peachy” I responded stabbing my lettuce fiercely. “Hellooooooo ALL!” Enil boomed through the cafeteria. She got some rude glares, which she gladly returned. What the- “Hey BESTIES OMG I MISSED YOU ALL!” Enil said slamming her tray on the table. “Well someone’s in a good mood.” Noell chuckled. “Oh Noell you have NO idea!” Enil smiled. “Well I am too! The only person who isn’t is Ariana. Now Ari what’s wrong?” Noell asked. My phone buzzed. Ahh saved by the bell. I held up my finger and told Noell to “Hold her thought.” Unknown: Turn Around Beautiful. Huh? I turned around to see Patrick smiling at me, which cause me to smile. “Patrick hi!” I said enthusiastically. I don’t think he realized he just saved me. “I guess you just can’t stay from me” he said cockily and I lightly punched his side, (since I couldn’t really reach his shoulder). “Whooo is this!” Noell screeched. Oh no. NO NO NO. Noell can’t take Patrick, like she took Jonah. “You know what, Noell your right, something is wrong, Patrick could you take me to the nurses office.” I said clutching my stomach. Concern crossed over Patrick’s face. “Yeah, I would im sorry I don’t know where it is.” Patrick stuttered. “I CAN-!” Noell started. “Know what I can show you” I said pulling him alongside of me. He put an arm around my waist as we limped out of the cafeteria doors. As soon as we were far enough away I sat up strait. Patrick gave me a look of confusion. “Remember how I told you I had friend problems?” I started to explain. Understanding crossed Patrick’s face. “Say no more, I just wish we could’ve brought our lunch to the nurses office.” He smirked. I instantly felt guilty. “I have an idea, come on. I took his hand and dragged him to the nearest vending machine. I always kept ones on me. “This is kind of unhealthy don’t you think Ariana?” He smirked again. That gosh darn smirk. “We’re young, we’ll live.” I replied pressing the number for ruffles. In the end we got two bags of ruffles, a Hershey’s bar and two diet cokes. We sat outside in the courtyard on Patrick’s jacket. It was like a vending machine picnic. The day was beautiful. The birds were chirping and the sun was shining brightly. “Its beautiful right?” said Patrick reading my thoughts. “Cheers to that.” I said raising my diet coke can and clinking it to his. “So is this like our first date?” Patrick said. I laughed at the thought of this being our first date. I just met the guy in first period. “Slow your roll cowboy, I just met you in first period.” I laughed. But it feels like I’ve known you longer. “True, plus I would never let a little lady like you pay on a date.” Patrick said sipping his diet coke. “People do it in Atlanta all the time, letting girls pay for the date and all.” I said. Patrick shook his head. “Never” he said. I shrugged my shoulders. “So what’s going on with you and your friends, they didn’t seem to be upset.” He seemed concerned. So explained, everything, to the guy I just met in first period. He didn’t interrupt me once. Once I finished I didn’t know I was crying until he was wiping the tears from my cheeks. “Im sorry” I shook my head. The bell rung indicating the end of lunch. Patrick helped me up. “Don’t be sorry, I’m glad you trust me.” Patrick smiled. I returned his smile. “I’ll call you later babe.” And before I could hit him for calling me babe he winked at me and ran off to his next class. The rest of the day pretty much went like this: Patrick, Patrick, and Patrick. I couldn’t get those mesmerizing gray eyes out of my mind. Finally the last bell rang. I literally ran to my bus. My Bus driver glared at me as usual, I returned the glare. I really hate that woman. Good thing I was the first stop. I rushed off the bus and trucked it all the way up the hill of my house. Today was a long day filled with….Patrick.
