Smack!
"You are worthless! You don't do anything right!"
Punch!
"I don't know why I'm still with you, we both know I can do so much better than you."
Kick!
"You are pathetic, and a waste of my time."
I sat on my knees in that empty school corridor, pain throbbing through my whole body as she mercilessly beat me. She was upset about something today, maybe she got into another fight with her mom. Whatever it was, she needed to get her anger out somehow, I didn't mind that she took it all out on me, I deserved it. I'm a bad person and I needed to be punished.
Smack!
"Why don't you say something? Are you mute? Or am I just not good enough for you? You think you're better than me? Say something!"
I gathered up my courage and swallowed the lump in my throat and said, "I... I love you Natalie... You're better than me..."
I looked up at her to see her face change from pure anger to remorse. A single tear escaped her eye and I instantly felt horrible. I made her cry...
"Oh my God... I'm so sorry Michael..." She said as tears began flooding down her face.
"Please don't apologize Natalie, its not your fault..." I said in a hoarse whisper.
"I'm a horrible girlfriend..." She said through sobs.
I quickly engulfed her in a tight embrace.
"Please don't ever say that Natalie, you're perfect. I love you..."
She pulled me into a breathtaking kiss, quickly making me forget about the pain screaming throughout my whole body.
At this point, I was a nervous wreck, it had been this way for at least three months, and I was always nervous and anxious, wondering if she was going to be upset and lash out on me. I never knew what she would do. But I was okay with it, I basically numbed myself emotionally, so it didn't hurt as much. Not to mention that I still loved her. She was my whole life, she could do whatever she wanted to me and I would still love her. My love for her would never subside.
Today was no different than most days. She got upset about something, she doesn't always tell me what exactly, but she would tell me to meet her in "our hallway," during lunch at school, which was the hallway connecting our orchestra room to the lunchroom, it locked from the inside... Which gave us complete privacy... Whenever she told me to meet her there, it was almost never for something good.
Things had been this way ever since the first time we broke up and got back together three months ago. We were originally a happy, normal couple. We went out on dates, we shared secrets, normal couple things. But after three or four months of dating, she called me one night and dumped me over the phone. I was of course distraught. I loved her even then. This was all part of her plan.
A week after we broke up, she called me and asked if we could get back together, I of course said yes without hesitation. This changed the whole dynamic of our relatonship more than I could ever fathom. In the short time of our break-up, she gained complete control over me, and she knew it too... That was her plan after all...
The bell rang as we were kissing, telling us it was time to get to class.
She pulled away from me and looked into my eyes and said, "I love you Michael." Which caused my heart to beat 20,000 beats faster than it should.
"I love you too Natalie."
